Wow, what a beautiful dining experience! From the moment you begin your walk up the candlelit path, through the gate to powerful wooden sculptures, toward the friendly faces of the staff greeting you, and the enticing smells from the kitchen, El Armadillo Mazunte is a delight to the senses. I am not a vegetarian, nor a vegan and normally pass over restaurants of this variety. A friend had wanted to eat here and I came along, wanting to stop for meat somewhere else afterwards. I was lamenting about not eating meat when unbeknownst to me the owner overheard my remarks. Noush, the owner, had ordered and just received his dinner, seitan a la naranja. He lovingly demanded I try it. Oh my goodness! So much flavor and perfect texture! I was sold! We had the beet salad and seitan a la naranja. The ingredients were fresh and seasonings complimentary. We also had Mezcal and a delicious cocktail called Naked in Mazunte. They were able to accommodate my request of no onions, which was nice. Since I enjoyed my first experience so much I decided to go again. This time I had the Morocan platter, which consisted of house hummus, beet salad, quinoa salad, falafel, tzatziki, and pita with morita and piloncillo. Way more great food than I could finish! The beets and falafel were the perfect texture! And for the grand finale I ordered the fondant de chocolate y naranja! Mmmmm! Chocolate, orange, and a bit of powdered sugar to seal the meal. If you're in the area do your belly and soul a favor and eat at El Armadillo Mazunte!

It takes a lot to get me, a self-proclaimed carnivore, to try a vegan restaurant. So when I gave El Armadillo a try after some proper convincing from a chef-friend of mine, I was blown away. Nestled in the lush green jungle off the main road of Rinconcito in Mazunte, is this hidden gem you’d easily miss. Upon arriving to Armadillo, a friendly waitress greets you. Bumping solid beats along with easy on the eyes dim lighting, you are given a menu and served water and this is where the real fun begins. I ordered a hibiscus limeade, which was a relief from all the usual immensely sugar-y drinks you often find. It was refreshing, crisp, to the point. I then ordered a golden tajine as per recommendations, and when it arrived I figured there’s no way I could eat this, but alas, I did. The whole thing. It was perfectly flavored, reminded me of my trip to Morocco earlier this summer. Like, damn. I was stuffed after it to be honest, but the crème brûlée kept calling me so I went for it. Take a bite and reallllly savor it. It was the most unique crème brûlée I’ve ever had. Subtle notes of orange blossom and sumac, with this light richness of a semolina crème that had me over my edge. 10/10 & I look forward to my next encounter with El Armadillo.

What an incredible experience! If you are in Mazunte, you should definitely eat at least once in El Armadillo. Follow the candles at the sign and you will find a beautiful, welcoming place where everything is cohesively made with love. Not only is the staff the most friendly, attentive and professional we have encountered on our travels, especially Damian. The food is also delicious far beyond any words or expectations, taking you on a culinary journey. Do you know these moments everybody around the table is suddenly silent when the food arrives, enjoying incredible taste like it could have only been done with magic? This is the place. Noush truly understands taste, combination, creativity, presentation and personal lovely involvement. El Armadillo is the only vegan restaurant in Mazunte and it is a delightful inspiration. Amazing Gluten-free dishes and options are naturally part of the menu. This place is actually a high class restaurant but with big portions and fair prices. If you are a foodie and like enjoyments of life, you will absolutely love it.

Hi, we ate at your place on the 5th of March and it was an incredible experience and we loved chatting to you (The owner) and we really really appreciated your place and was proud of you that you were considering opening another place in Mexico City.

We came back on the 7th and did not have such a pleasant experience. You not being there seemed like the place collapsed and was just a place for your workers to have a play ground when your not there.

One of the girls went to the toilet and came out and didn't even wash her hands and we seen that she was in the kitchen. We complained to male server and he did approach her and her excuse was she washed her hands where the dishes our washed. Seeing that and complaining as a customer was not good.

The other girl server was not in uniform and was just standing on her phone the whole time chatting to the cooking staff showing her Instagram laughing and joking the whole time when we were trying to eat our meal. This was very disturbing for us. Can't believe how un present she was about our experience and how unthoughtful she was.

The male sever was okay but still got distracted by the female workers.

I hope this review finds you well and it's a chance to really lock down and make your place a highend experience which I think you want and we're just not aware of when you are not there. As I said we had a wonderful experience when you were there and enjoyed meeting you.

(Also I have tried many times to email the owner directly and use the WhatsApp to get in touch and share my experience with the owner rather than doing a review but I have just kept getting ignored! So this is on the staff and not having proper email on website) Thank...

I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. We found it by accident (look closely for the sign or you might miss it!) After a very long day, we left El Armadillo feeling refreshed, treated, and nourished. We had the iced golden milk and the hibiscus lemonade while we waited for the lib koosa dip and the golden tajine. Everything was so fresh and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Though absolutely stuffed, we had to try the almond cookies for dessert and they were served still warm and beautifully plated. Heaven! Though I loved the local Mexican food, I really appreciated this fresh, change of cuisine while traveling. Plus the restaurant is slightly uphill and therefore away from the crowded main street. It is peaceful and quiet and has a lovely atmosphere to relax and enjoy your dinner. I would describe the atmosphere as elegant but very comfortable. The staff were friendly, the service warm and attentive. I felt very taken care of. The pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the environment they provide. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our dinner at El Armadillo so much, we went back for breakfast a couple of days later. Just wonderful. I’d give more than 5 stars if possible! Thank you to the team at El Armadillo, I can’t wait to dine with you again and see what future...
