Gluten intolerant folks, beware. I ordered a gluten free pizza, but they still served me a regular crust pizza...... Here's what happened: Upon arriving, I asked the server if they still made gluten free pizzas. The server assured me, yes, and he and I had a whole conversation about which options he thought were best for gf people, including pizza toppings. He was 100% aware that I was wanting a gluten free pizza. He puts the order in. I get a pizza with a very thin crust.... similar to gf crusts. After I eat the pizza, and only AFTER I eat the pizza, does a different server realize that the pizza I had been given was a regular wheat pizza. The second server alerts the first server. The original server then came back and said he had heard my order 100%, but probably "forgot to put it in the system" when he put my order in. He apologized and said he didn't try to make me sick on purpose, but some kind of oversight happened. Then he proceeded to gaslight me and say he didn't understand why it happened... and suggested I read the reviews of all the people who came and had a good experience....If you're gluten intolerant, you know that this kind of mistake by a restaurant is costly, and it's you that pays the price. It doesn't matter if this place has a bunch of good reviews. They let a customer eat an entire pizza, and realized their mistake only AFTER I ate the pizza. Do I feel like they took responsibility? No. Not when they kept saying "We don't know how this...
Read moreWe are giving one star not because of the food but because of how customer complaints are being handled at waiter level. The pizza is small, not best quality, long wait time, waiters have attitude, and quite pricey at over 220mxn for a Margarita pizza. Read on for details.
We ordered Lemonade and Empanadas and a Margarita pizza (the "large" size of 30cm). The lemonade took around 20min to be brought to us while the pizza and empanadas took almost 30min. To our surprise the pizza was a lot smaller (probably around 20cm) and the waiter insisted it was the same size as we ordered. We told them we weren't happy with such a small size and they told us that all other customers like it. Instead if offering a compensation or trying to make it right as we ordered a large pizza and were given a smaller one they didn't do anything. On the contrary, they sent a second waiter to explain to us why we were wrong.
The taste wasn't that special, lacked basic ingredients and the dough was not pizza dough. All in all the quality was less than what we expected.
The place is small, maybe only 5 tables to sit at. We add attitude from the waiters and a long time to be served our food and come to the conclusion that there are better places to...
Read moreMatatena Pizzeria is a pizza place, like the name says, offering amazing gluten-free crusts (made from quinoa) and vegan and vegetarian pizza options (including cheese). The vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free pizzas were clearly labeled on the menu which was helpful.
I ate dinner here and ordered the Margarita Pizza which had tomato sauce, tomatoes, basil and cheese and it was fantastic and so tasty – one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. They also served kombucha and a variety of other pizzas that could be made vegan and gluten-free. The restaurant was located a block or two from the Zocalo inside a charming colonial building. There were two floors for seating with the second level having a balcony overlooking the rest of the restaurant. The atmosphere in the evening was very pleasant and inviting with soft music playing in the background. The service was excellent with super friendly and knowledgeable staff. I was very impressed...
