Casa Mayordomo — Restaurant in Oaxaca

We visited this restaurant for dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Considering it is part of a large chain, their ability to deliver a well-executed mole negro is quite impressive. One standout dish was the Oaxacan-style stuffed chicken breast, a preparation I had not encountered before. It was filled with rajas de chile poblano and flor de calabaza, adding a delicate balance of flavors that I highly recommend trying.

However, the service could be improved. Given the restaurant’s high volume of customers, it seems that attentiveness is not a priority. My partner ordered pozole, and while I understand that in Oaxaca it is traditionally not served with lettuce, he specifically requested it. The server initially said they didn’t have any, but upon my request to use some from their salads, he eventually brought some.

Overall, this is a convenient spot for a quick meal with reliably good flavors, though service might not always meet...

This is a great place for breakfast in Oaxaca Centro. Service is fast, efficient and personal. We came once and when we went back a few days later, the waiter not only recognized us and greeted us but he also remember details about our food options. So, service is exceptional.

I had "huevos al gusto" which were pretty great. They came with a black bean refrito and a tortilla with red sauce. The red sauce was not great. The rest was pretty good.

We didn't order chocolate but watched the waiter preparing it for the table next to ours. Next time we go (before leaving Oaxaca), we'll have that chocolate.

Llegué con mis padres adultos mayores el día domingo 27 de julio aproximadamente a las 21:20 horas, y al acercarme a la entrada me abordó un guardia de seguridad y me dijo en tono poco amigable: ''hay un evento, son 600 pesos mínimo de consumo por persona'' y antes de preguntar nada me abordó quien parecía la anfitriona, digo parecía porque más bien se mostraba insegura y preguntaba todo a quien parecía el gerente o alguien con más autoridad, y ella me indicó: ''si hay un evento, pero ya está por terminar, puede pasar y consumir de la carta de alimentos y bebidas''. Fue raro, pero decidimos entrar, nos dieron las cartas, llegaron a tomarnos la orden y solicitamos chocolate y no había, por el evento, dijeron, entonces mis padres, esposo y demás familia pedimos café y postres e incluso tragos, se fue el mesero. Y enseguida llegó la anfitriona a decirme que su mesero le dijo que no pedimos alimentos, y yo, incrédula y sin entender muy bien, le pregunté: '¿cómo, disculpa?'. Y ella: 'sí, es que por alimentos solo son los de esta fila' y señaló con el dedo los platos fuertes descritos en la carta. Entonces le dije: 'me hubieras indicado qué alimentos podía pedir en la entrada, no tienes ni chocolate y es 'mayordomo'. Ella respondió: 'pues es que hay evento y debe pedir alimentos de esa fila'. Le respondí: 'pues dijiste que iba terminando y no dijiste que eran los alimentos que tú querías, sólo me lo hubieras especificado antes de entrar'. Nos levantamos, salimos y me encontré al gerente en la entrada, le pregunté si era el gerente, le dije que apoyara a su personal, que coucheara a su anfitriona porque era malísima y que tuvieran criterio. En fin, hemos ido infinidad de veces a diversas partes de Oaxaca, nos encanta, pero este lugar es el único nefasto que...
