Santa Hierba Jalatlaco — Restaurant in Oaxaca

My very first time was amazing service and food. We tried the vanilla waffles, açaí bowl and the hummus avocado toast. Most are recommended and beautifully plated. However, the vanilla waffles were tasteless in my opinion. Me and my friend returned again 2 days later since we really enjoyed the food and vibe. We ordered the açaí bowl and chilaquiles and it was the complete opposite..serving was smaller, service was bad not only that I asked for no coconut on the açaí bowl and the server brings it and says “they put coconut in the bowl is that ok or do you want them to take it out” it was an uncomfortable position and I felt bad having them redo it so I said to leave it. I’ve worked in food before and if you know the plate is incorrect why not fix it before taking it to the customers table? It made no sense on putting me in that position. in addition, this time around the bowls taste was very bland as well as the avocado toast plus I was unable to enjoy it since there was so much coconut which I dislike. Es mi lugar favorito. Vimos que había sacado un nuevo menú, y estábamos emocionados por probarlo. Realmente no es nuevo como tal, imaginábamos que habrían muchos platillos nuevos, solo son algunos. Eso nos decepcionó un poco.

En fin, íbamos con buenas expectativas. Nos tocó un mesero muy amable, un poco distraído, pues veíamos que tardaba un poco en recogernos los platos, y no se acercó ni una vez a preguntar si todo bien con el servicio, varias veces estábamos al pendiente si nos veía por qué queríamos pedir que nos calentara nuestro croissant pero estaba ocupado platicando, equis, no es algo que nos moleste.

Pedimos para iniciar un matcha latte y un croissant lotus, nos dijeron que había croissant lotus y al final no. Teníamos muchas ganas de probarlo. El matcha estaba delicioso, cremoso y muy muy rico, los baristas nunca fallan.

Luego pedimos unos nuggets not pollo, nos duró muy poco lo rico de los nuggets, es muy pequeña la porción, y la salsa bbq estaba fría (?).

Nos ofrecieron el croissant normal, lo pedimos calientito, nos lo trajeron frío, pero al final el mesero amablemente nos lo calentó.

Pedimos pollo picante y gyro. El pollo picante estaba wow, el único mejor platillo de la noche por mucho. Delicioso, armonioso, delicioso en cada bocado, calientito, con verduras frescas, de verdad wow con lo rico. La porción estaba súper bien, 10/10

El gyro, de verdad quería que me gustara. He probado gyros y me gustan mucho, este tenía la pita muy dura, parecía totopo, deseaba más sabor, no sabía a mucho la verdad. Sinceramente cuando uno pide platillos donde sea, desea sentirse satisfecho, me quedé con mucha hambre, mi esposo me compartió de su pollo picante, y al final terminé pidiéndome una hamburguesa para llenarme. Ojalá eventualmente puedan hacer la porción un poco grande, por que si está muy pequeña, más pequeña que mi mano :(

El agua infusionada solo como observación necesita hielos, al tiempo no se siente tanto el sabor de las hierbas que agregan. Tal vez es cuestión personal.

La hamburguesa veggie, muy rica, habíamos pedido anteriormente en otra ocasión la doble queso que es vegana, y el medallón vegano era compacto, en este caso, en nuestra hamburguesa veggie se deshacía y en cada mordida se caía como masita :(

Nuestra cuenta fue considerable, la verdad hay cosas aún que mejorar pero no me doy por vencida, seguro tendrán platillos mejores. Sigue siendo de mis lugares favoritos para comer opciones saludables.

He visto que suelen ser un bastante groseros y arrogantes al responder los reviews, la verdad es que no tiene caso, es también bueno apreciar comentarios constructivos, no todos son con el fin de afectar, y no, no requiero un reembolso. Me gusta mucho el lugar, pero si, tiene aspectos aún que mejorar y eso también está bien.

ACTUALIZACIÓN

Leyeron mi review al momento. Se acercaron a regalarnos una galleta NY. Muy buena, a mi esposo le encantó. Y nos cambiaron el agua de cortesía con hielos. Agradecimos totalmente el gesto, la atención oportuna. Verdaderamente nos llenó de alegría ver como toman en cuenta los detalles, gracias de nuevo, y son gestos que hacen total diferencia. Un agradecimiento total a la chica que se acercó, no esperábamos nada a cambio la verdad. Nos explicaron ya después que el gyro es gluten free y es por eso que la pita es diferente, la pita la hacen ahí (como todos los panes) no nos lo explicaron antes y eso hace...

I don’t often change my reviews but I went back a second time and had a completely different experience. I’ve left the original and given the restaurant 3instead of 5 stars for the original visit and for the ridiculous vegan surcharges.

The atmosphere is beautiful. It’s modern and sleek like an Instagram posting. It’s beautiful. The food presentation, from table water, coffees and food were beautiful constructed. The only drawback were the prices. It’s one of the more expensive places in Oaxaca. That being said i would totally recommend. Just go during the week.
