Mariskinky — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

A friend and I visited Mariskinky on Monday afternoon around 4:30 PM. We were told that we could wait to be seated in the older section and take advantage of a special priced menu or we could be seated immediately in the newer part of the restaurant. Last week I was offered a special price menu for sitting at the bar, we were told that was not the policy. We opted not to wait for a table and be seated immediately and pay regular prices. We each ordered three tacos. It took almost 2 hours to be served the food. When paying the check the manager is the one who took the payment on the credit card terminal. I explained to him about our experience. And all he had to say was I hope you give us another chance. My friend had stated that he was at the restaurant last week in the afternoon and they informed him there was no hot food available, only cold options. I inquired why that was the case and the manager stated they only have two people to prepare food in the kitchen. And if one of them doesn’t show up, then they only serve cold food. So it occurs they doubled the size of the restaurant without adding any kitchen staff. This place has been on my list of places to try since forever!!! I have seen the pictures of their shrimp plates and they look delicious!!! I finally got to try it today!!!

I always pass by this place during dinner time and it is always crowded so I never come in. Today I was trying to decide what to eat for lunch and searched up places to eat near my AirBNB and this place kept popping up. So I decided to come by during lunch to pick up some food today and WOW WOW WOW..I have been missing out!!!

I got the cabezones shrimp (big head shrimps) classic style and enchilada style. Since it was my first time trying the shrimp plate I wanted to try both styles to see which one I would like better. I got a plate of the classic and a plate of the enchilada style shrimp..both were good..but I liked the enchilada style more because it had a little kick to the shrimp. The plate comes with potatoes and guacamole and has a good amount of shrimp!!! Other places in Playa have similar shrimp plates but it is not as good and they don't give as many shrimps as this place!!! I cannot wait to come back soon to get more cabezones shrimp!!! VERY GOOD!!!

Also the two employees who helped me were super nice!!! Thank you for having wonderful food...

Is there any place in Quintana Roo that is not trying to scam you? I found this place online and it said Monday promo all drinks 30 pesos. Cool. We head over there. Once we are there the waiter lets us know about the promo, brings us a menu with the promo. Then suddenly they see it’s a group of 6 and suddenly the promo is only adequate if you order food. So I order appetizers. The waiter leaves and comes back and says we each have to order food to get the promo.. are they really making this up as they go?

Anyways.. we get some food, I order marlín tostadas and they come out and the marlín is burnt black. Like burnt burnt. Don’t make a big deal because I am just trying to have a nice time.

Get the bill and pay and they are missing over 150 pesos in change. Thought we would be too drunk to notice? I notify then of the error and they go back to fix it only to come back with still $10 missing. The bill says service not included but I guess they like to pay themselves out of your tab. Left them with no tip because I was missing money and the waiter still complained about the...
