I am happy to share my impressions of the Mangata Beach Club hotel in Playa del Carmen. From the moment of arrival, I felt like I was in paradise: the staff was friendly and helpful, always ready to assist. The room was clean and cozy. The hotel had everything necessary for a comfortable stay: a pool with a bar, restaurants with a variety of dishes, and a beach with loungers and relaxation areas. The breakfasts were substantial, and you could choose something from the menu. For me, this was a bit of a problem because I didn't enjoy having only one dish. The most enjoyable aspect was that the hotel was located right on the beach, allowing for enjoyment of the beach and sunsets every day, although admittedly it was not very suitable for swimming. However, by walking a bit further, you could find nice swimming spots. Overall, I had a good experience at the Mangata Beach Club, and it will remain special to me because I came to Mexico to celebrate my wedding, so this hotel now associates with it. I hope to return for our anniversary. My stay at the hotel was in early 2023, so I'm writing about what was at that time.

Wow, what a scam! We made our reservation for their "oh so famous" beach club upfront and were told there were two sunbeds "reserved" for us, with a towel service and a minimum consumption of 500 mxn per person. When we arrived we checked in at the front desk leaving 300 pesos deposit per mini towel which were not even close to sufficient for covering the sun beds. The two promised sunbeds weren't existing. Service was slow, beach is rocky and only a narrow strip of maybe 25m width. Totally overrated place, better chill at the beach with your drinks bought at oxxo. If you're easy to please and haven't seen other places on earth, do visit. We travel a lot but I have never seen such a bad value for money. Oh and the beach towels color your clothes in blue... Don't wear your favorite bikini...if their laundry service doesn't fix it, I can throw mine away 😔

My wife and I came to use the beach club. Before the negative, I will say it's a cool property, but that's where the good stops..

The service and food/drinks just absolutely killed the experience.

Here's just a short list of all the problems we experienced in a short day stay at this beach club:

  1. Stained towels - This alone wasn't terrible as they swapped out the towel once we noticed and they saw it.
  2. No rum and nearly no fruit options - My wife and I hardly drink, but wanted just some typical pina coladas or some other tropical drink. He started making it and poured in vodka. I'm glad I was paying attention because I told him I was no longer interested in the drink when I saw it would have vodka. It just would not taste how I wanted, and I was not told beforehand that they were going to substitute it. They also only had mango, passion fruit, and mixed berries. No bananas, no pineapple (fruit or juice), or lots of other stuff their drinks list claimed it would include - Oh and this fake daiquiri was going to cost about $15..
  3. Our first order was for a water, a juice, and their guac. They never placed the guac order. I asked after about 45 minutes if it was almost done, and clearly they didn't place the order. No apology, no ownership, they just brushed it off and got it to us at about the 65 minute mark.
  4. The Lunes de Fuego restaurant is also closed but they still advertise its menu. You cannot get anything from that menu as it no longer exists.
  5. Prices in general.. Look I'm not afraid to spend money on food. I love going out, but when you're blindsided by stupid expenses like a $15USD juice drink (made wrong) and an $8 regular water, and other prices that just don't match the quality, it feels like you've been taken advantage of.

I pretty much never review a place when I don't enjoy it. You're welcome to check my review history, it's pretty much all for just good places that I wanted to help add to their well deserved reputation. This place left a sour taste in our mouth and it deserved the negative publicity.

Just go somewhere else.

(While leaving, we happened to find ourselves talking with a manager/owner, Abraham. He was very nice, and genuinely seemed upset that we had a negative experience. He offered to give us dinner tomorrow on him, which we politely declined because we have other plans for the rest of the trip. However, I was appreciative of him making an effort to improve our...

Review from our stay In November 2021

Check in was incredibly smooth, Alex offered us a welcome drink after a long flight and showed us around and explained everything to us really well, we instantly felt at home.

We were in a panoramic suite, it was INCREDIBLE, it instantly took our breath away. Stunning view of the beach, a fabulous bathroom, huge TV with Netflix and the most beautiful hot tub on the balcony. Heaven! The robes were a nice luxurious touch and we had complimentary use of a beach bag which was a practical yet nice idea. Came in handy!

We went to the rooftop restaurant in the evening where Bryan served us. Attentive service and really delicious food and drinks. You must visit while staying here. All the food has been delicious, the following night we got room service, they happily adapted some dishes for us which they didn't have to. Fantastic wine list, we highly recommend the malbec wine. As this is such a small hotel the breakfast is a la carte where you get 2 dishes and 2 drinks per person which is more than enough, we loved the fact there was no buffet as this really reduces food waste. One day they happily brought breakfast to our room as O wasn't feeling too well. No request has been denied this whole trip.

The rooftop pool is stunning, JC looked after us well, kept the cocktails flowing and ensured we were comfortable all day long. There was no fight for sunbeds and the music was very cool, perfect for poolside vibes, we were constantly shazaming tunes! One downside is that you can't swim directly in the sea due to rocks, but a few min walk down the beach you can easily get to a swimming beach so it's not really a problem.

Fillipe ensured a smooth check out for us, we will be really sad to leave the Mvngata, we will 100% be returning. Thank you so much to the whole team for making this stay incredible, so sorry if I haven't mentioned you specifically, each and every one of you have...

We are very disappointed , we’ve been coming to mvngata for the past 2 years every time we visit Playa del Carmen which is twice a year or more . They used to let us seat at the restaurant without asking for a minimum of consumption and we were able to use the pool too . We actually spent more than what they were asking as minimum but we just don’t like to be pressured on how much we need to spend.

They would ask for $1,000 pesos minimum if you wanted to use the beds by the beach .

Today we came to eat with our 6 year old daughter, who was excited to swim in the pool. The hostess told us we couldn’t use the pool if we were just seating at the restaurant , if my daughter wanted to use the pool we needed to pay $500 pesos and of course my husband and I wouldn’t be able to use the pool with her unless we paid $1000 pesos each . The place is empty , they have no people at all , and we don’t understand why they would make it so difficult.

We also had a situation at the rooftop on Sunday , they supposedly close at 10:30 pm. By 10 pm they turned off the music and started cleaning up and getting ready to leave , making us feel like we were bothering them because we still wanted to order more drinks . And again they were empty . They’re loosing customers by trying to be expensive.

We spent $300 dlls on our first visit to the rooftop . Second time we spent $180 dlls . When they kicked us out . We won’t ever...
