My dad and I had dinner at Hook Black, located on the top floor of a hotel with a stunning view of Puebla’s cathedral and the entire experience felt elevated from start to finish. The space is modern, sleek, and surprisingly cozy for how stylish it is, with comfortable seating, spotless surroundings, and a live DJ providing music that added energy without being overwhelming.
To start, I ordered a cosmopolitan. It was strong in the best way you could taste the alcohol, but it was still smooth and balanced, served in a classic cocktail glass with no frills. My dad had the mango mojito, which was a standout: fresh, sweet, and beautifully presented, with no artificial taste and no mango chunks just clean, fruity flavor.
As an appetizer, we shared the roasted bone marrow, which came with three generously sized bones and warm tortillas. I had never tried marrow before, but it was buttery and rich, and came topped with guacamole, onions, and other garnishes that gave it brightness and texture. My dad, who’s had marrow before, was also impressed.
For our main course, we shared the picanha, which you can choose to have cooked to your preference. We opted for medium rare, and it was the highlight of the night. Juicy, tender, and deeply flavorful, it came perfectly cooked and didn’t need any sauce the seasoning and quality of the beef spoke for itself. The accompanying potato wedges were crisp and nicely seasoned, not just an afterthought.
To end the meal, I had the artisanal chocolate ice cream. It leaned more toward milk chocolate than dark, with a smooth, creamy texture. The portion was just right, and it came topped with an elegant edible chocolate leaf a simple but thoughtful touch.
The service throughout the night was excellent. The servers were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The pacing of the meal was spot on we never felt rushed, but we were never waiting too long either. Everyone was well-dressed and professional, which matched the polished feel of the whole place.
Overall, Hook Black is definitely worth a visit especially if you're looking for a special dinner in Puebla with great food, strong drinks, and an unbeatable view. I'd...
Read moreHook Black saves the evening with an amazing experience. Great meal. Great drinks. Great service. Great '80s music that night. Great atmosphere. We arrived at 10:00 and the reason they saved the evening is we had a terrible experience at another restaurant and ended up not eating. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. The music was a little loud when we got in but we got used to it and were able to talk just fine. Great '80s music. They were so patient with us. The waiter was phenomenal. In fact all the waiters were amazing. They took pity on us and one of the waiterspoke perfect English. It was just an amazing evening. Other people that were there look like they were having a great time. We started off with drinks. A cosmopolitan and an amazing mojito. We started off with the bone marrow. It was really good. The waiter came over and showed us with pantomime how to put the marrow on the corn tortillas and eat it. We followed the instructions and they were so good. Then we ordered the picanha medium rare and just like I told the waiter, the meat came out medium rare and seasoned perfectly. The potatoes were absolutely phenomenal. Presentation was great. I just recommend you get the meat off of the sizzling plate as soon as possible before cooks any ice cream which hit the spot. We just really loved everything about the evening here. Being open to a drink or two and open to enjoying some great music helps. It's a beautiful restaurant with large glass windows looking over the cathedral. Just a wonderful view. Just a wonderful evening. They take credit cards specifically...
Read moreWe dined at Hook Black on a Sunday evening. It is the rooftop restaurant inside the voco Royalty Hotel at the zocalo in Puebla. It was not full but certainly enough patrons to show some love and create some ambiance. We wanted to sit outside to better enjoy the view of the Catedral but it began to rain as we arrived. However we sat just inside and enjoyed the view regardless. We had Tortilla Soup, Carne con Tuétano Soup and shared Ravioli con Pulpo. We also snacked on some amazing bread + salsas. All the food was very good. However if there was a Soup competition, Tortilla would have won. Service was considerate, attentive and helpful. A very nice night in downtown Puebla. Highly...
