We spend a week at Puebla and we could not leave without eat here which by the way is one of the best rated restaurants at Puebla.
The place is pretty well located, just two blocks away from the city centre, and its name was set because inside the place you can find several wall paintings created by Antonio Álvarez Morán that shows very important people whose have built Puebla’s history.
The restaurant is huge, is a two story building with a little bar and a small store (not talking about the oxo) both part of the place, between them is the main entrance where you will find a friendly hostess who will assign you a table either at low level or up stairs, you can choose which place works for you.
Once you are in the table you will be pampered by the cosy attention provided by the staff of the place, in our case Fernando was the one who took care of us while in place, very attentive and willing to assist us.
The courses menu is not so extensive, so that, you will surely find something that will fulfill your hunger, but it is all the contrary with the wines and liquors menu, it is pretty extensive, but if you know what you are looking for, you will surely find the perfect pair for your food, but if you have no idea what to ask for, you can request help from your waiter.
The food here is delicious, all the elements used in all the courses are brought by local producers, so that, you will taste premium and fresh ingredients.
In our case we ordered a “Sopa Poblana” and a “Mole Poblano” with Duck Magret, both dishes where delicious, the soup was very fresh, I mean, you can taste each ingredient freshness.
And the Mole, well is one of the best “Moles Poblanos” I have ever tasted, it is a little bit hot but sweet in the same way, just like a “Mole Poblano” have to be.
And for the grand finale, we ordered a “Regalo de Quetzalcoatl” which is a coulan stuffed with hot melted cocoa, when you cut it on halfs the melted chocolate runs out on the dish, it really worths to wait the 20 minutes which take to prepare it.
There is no dress code in place and you can get in without booking, but I recommend always to have a call so as to schedule a...

I was visiting Puebla with my support dog and friend, eager to have a delicious typical meal from Puebla. We came for one thing in particular: Chile en Nogada. My friend recommended “Mural de los Poblanos” because of their beautiful atmosphere with colorful murals and delicious upscale food since she had eaten there before. I recommend making a reservation in advance to make sure you have a spot since it is a popular spot.
When we arrived, they were extremely accommodating and figured out a way to seat us with my dog. (Heads up: if you have a medical condition and travel with a support dog, you MUST bring documentation with you).
In particular, Oscar, Jonathan, and Lucio were so attentive and welcoming. They gave us excellent suggestions for what to order and we felt right at home. They sat us in a private room for small events, which let us play our own music on an app called “Sonos”. We were dancing to regatón and having ourselves a little party. Their drink list (especially Mezcal) is super extensive.
We ordered the cemitas trio “trilogía de cemitas”, chapulines tostadas “tostadas de jocoque con chapulines” and nopal salad “ensalada de nopal” to start. I really recommend the cemitas! They are like mini sandwiches stuffed with all types of yumminess. Chapulines are fried crickets, so if you are scared of eating bugs, don’t be! They do an amazing job of making it taste and look delicious.
For our entrees, we ordered the mole assortment and chile en nogada (this particular dish is only available in July, August, and September). It was so interesting to taste the many different types of mole they offer. The chile en nogada was AMAZING! The mixture of sweet, savory, smooth, crunchy, creamy, and tart all at once was like nothing I’ve eaten before. The story behind it is even better. If you don’t already know the story, ask the waiter! We knew the story but discovered that it was the first restaurant to ever make this iconic dish. Also ask the waiter about their mural that depicts Mexican sayings.
Overall, we had the best experience! I can’t...
Read moreI am not sure who these people are who are recommending this place, But this is one of the most disappointing meals I've had in my adult life. Absolutely no flavor, uninspired cuisine.
I understand that the bread is handmade but it was as tough as four day-old bread. The cemitas were a lot of bread with some very subpar cheese. One of them had a sauce that made it OK, but that's still a stretch.
I had the lamb meatballs and to say that I was underwhelmed is an understatement. Absolutely no flavor, no spice. And before you say that I don't have taste buds because of Covid, I assure you that I've tasted plenty of great food in this town today.
My partner's mole was.....tired. I thought this place was known for their mole? This had all of the richness of potting soil mixed with bilge water. Scratch that - potting soil probably has more flavor.
There is a "Mexican" dive restaurant back home that I make fun of for being non-authentic. Their enchiladas swim in some ooey-gooey slop sauce that drowns the food underneath. But you know what? At least that slop has flavor.
Save your pesos and head to Moyelo. Or, there's a woman at the corner of Av 4 P and Calle 7 N with a hamburger cart. It's a sloppy representation of a hamburger, but it is flavorful and made with love. Either would be better dining choices than El Mural de...
