We spend a week at Puebla and we could not leave without eat here which by the way is one of the best rated restaurants at Puebla. The place is pretty well located, just two blocks away from the city centre, and its name was set because inside the place you can find several wall paintings created by Antonio Álvarez Morán that shows very important people whose have built Puebla’s history. The restaurant is huge, is a two story building with a little bar and a small store (not talking about the oxo) both part of the place, between them is the main entrance where you will find a friendly hostess who will assign you a table either at low level or up stairs, you can choose which place works for you. Once you are in the table you will be pampered by the cosy attention provided by the staff of the place, in our case Fernando was the one who took care of us while in place, very attentive and willing to assist us. The courses menu is not so extensive, so that, you will surely find something that will fulfill your hunger, but it is all the contrary with the wines and liquors menu, it is pretty extensive, but if you know what you are looking for, you will surely find the perfect pair for your food, but if you have no idea what to ask for, you can request help from your waiter. The food here is delicious, all the elements used in all the courses are brought by local producers, so that, you will taste premium and fresh ingredients. In our case we ordered a “Sopa Poblana” and a “Mole Poblano” with Duck Magret, both dishes where delicious, the soup was very fresh, I mean, you can taste each ingredient freshness. And the Mole, well is one of the best “Moles Poblanos” I have ever tasted, it is a little bit hot but sweet in the same way, just like a “Mole Poblano” have to be. And for the grand finale, we ordered a “Regalo de Quetzalcoatl” which is a coulan stuffed with hot melted cocoa, when you cut it on halfs the melted chocolate runs out on the dish, it really worths to wait the 20 minutes which take to prepare it. There is no dress code in place and you can get in without booking, but I recommend always to have a call so as to schedule a reservation.

Most memorable meal in Mexico! I was visiting Puebla with my support dog and friend, eager to have a delicious typical meal from Puebla. We came for one thing in particular: Chile en Nogada. My friend recommended “Mural de los Poblanos” because of their beautiful atmosphere with colorful murals and delicious upscale food since she had eaten there before. I recommend making a reservation in advance to make sure you have a spot since it is a popular spot. When we arrived, they were extremely accommodating and figured out a way to seat us with my dog. (Heads up: if you have a medical condition and travel with a support dog, you MUST bring documentation with you). In particular, Oscar, Jonathan, and Lucio were so attentive and welcoming. They gave us excellent suggestions for what to order and we felt right at home. They sat us in a private room for small events, which let us play our own music on an app called “Sonos”. We were dancing to regatón and having ourselves a little party. Their drink list (especially Mezcal) is super extensive. We ordered the cemitas trio “trilogía de cemitas”, chapulines tostadas “tostadas de jocoque con chapulines” and nopal salad “ensalada de nopal” to start. I really recommend the cemitas! They are like mini sandwiches stuffed with all types of yumminess. Chapulines are fried crickets, so if you are scared of eating bugs, don’t be! They do an amazing job of making it taste and look delicious. For our entrees, we ordered the mole assortment and chile en nogada (this particular dish is only available in July, August, and September). It was so interesting to taste the many different types of mole they offer. The chile en nogada was AMAZING! The mixture of sweet, savory, smooth, crunchy, creamy, and tart all at once was like nothing I’ve eaten before. The story behind it is even better. If you don’t already know the story, ask the waiter! We knew the story but discovered that it was the first restaurant to ever make this iconic dish. Also ask the waiter about their mural that depicts Mexican sayings. Overall, we had the best experience! I can’t wait to return.

Good place to eat. Nice interiors. Classic Mexican/Poblano dishes. Chile en nogada was a bit to sweet for my taste, but it was still good to try. I’d definitely consider coming back here but for other dishes (esp. since I'm here for a few days). I give this place 3-stars because for me (a Mex-American), this food is just good—the way it’s supposed to be! It's standard, it's what's expected, but it's NOT anything special because like every good Mexican: abuela's cooking is superior! If you've got no Mexican grandma then, it totally makes sense: this place will taste like 5 stars to you. If you're looking for something more interesting, offering classic dishes + inventive, one-of-a-kind dishes that will satisfy your group of divided eaters who can't decide whether to eat something traditional or unique--if that sounds like you, go to Augurio's instead (it's a few blocks away--you can read my review for more info). Overall, this place is still good, and maybe worth the visit (if you're here for a few days). But if it's your only meal here...hmmm not sure--I cannot agree that this place is a "MUST"... Lastly, if you have no reservations (I didn't), you could probably arrive between 12 noon-1pm and get a table within minutes on a weekday. On my way out, however, (around 2pm) there was a long line of tourists waiting to try the place.

This is one of my favorite places to get Mexican food with a nice presentation in a beautiful atmosphere. I always get the “Chalupas” and the pressed pork rinds tacos that are just delicious. This time I had the opportunity to enjoy the “Bichos Festival” the menu has seasonal offerings based on insects traditionally prepared. I highly recommend you the assorted insects tacos. It is a variety of four and they are absolutely tasty. ——— I had to edit my review since this my 5th visit was terrible. I had to call the waiter to come and order drinks, after that I ask him twice for paper napkins and he never brought it I did it myself l, literally I went to the counter for them. With just two tables the waiter forgot my friend main course. I don’t think it will be a next time. Besides that, they charge us more than we ask for. Is not big deal just one drink more but this totally broke our trust to this place.

Extremely disappointing experience! Didn't have reservations, but told the wait would only be 30 minutes... We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes! They do give you free drinks while you wait and this is probably why. We could have made an openable reservation during the time frame we actually waited... Not sure if it would have helped. Waiter took our drink orders and it took about 10 minutes for them to arrive. We were served bread and appetizers without drinks. Drinks arrived shortly before food, but waiter didn't bother to pour drinks from bottle or can. Not close to the 5 star service we were expecting. They also delivered an incorrect entree, but it was corrected quickly. Food was good, but our waiter and his service in conjunction with the extremely long wait, made this a poor experience. Better places to eat in Puebla.

El Mural de los Poblanos has and reputation for its traditional cuisine, which is true in paper, not so much in my experience. I found the atmosphere to be beautiful and The menu selection quite authentic. I wasn’t impressed however by the quality of their food or service, which is very unusual for a restaurant of it’s category. All dishes delivered at the same time (appetizers and entrances), slow service, bread and water that took forever, you get the idea. The deserts however were outstanding! Their flan lived up to expectations! The restaurant also has a charming shop by the entrance which sells their moles, soaps and lotions (sample them in the toilets), Mezcal, and other local delicacies. Worth the stop. It might have been a random not-so-good day at the restaurant, but in any case, my experience.
