After enjoying one of the best beaches in the Riveria Maya, we set out to find a nice spot for dinner. We found this little spot in Puerto Morelos called La Pepita.
When we first walked in there was a swinging bar and the entire floor of the main floor seating area is completely covered in sand. What the restaurant lacked in decor, it made to for in taste. The food was absolutely scrumptious and worth every penny. We had some great ceviche and the best coconut shrimp I've ever had. Their fish was cooked to perfection.
Our waiter was Walter, he was very helpful and very friendly with great service.
A few extras things to note:
There is a Puerto Morales sign in the restaurant so you can take your pictures there while you wait for your food.
Puerto Morales seems to be very eco friendly. If you want a straw for your drink they will charge you 2 pesos for a biodegradable straw. So if you plan to drink more than one drink save your straw.
The price of your fish will vary by the size/weight you want. So if you plan on ordering the fish, you can either ask them if any other guest have ordered the fish and they will show you a size comparison or you can tell them how much you want to spend and they’ll choose the size that way.
There are street vendors that will come by while you’re eating and ask if you’re interested in buying anything. If you say no, they will go away quickly. If you say yes, you can multitask and shop while you eat.
They have a live music option. A guitar and/ or harpist will come to your table and play for your if you want a more romantic ambience (for a fee).
They have an upstairs deck which is available by reservations for...
Read moreThe food was excellent especially the fish soup. Unfortunately the service by George turned out a disaster at the end. I want to use my credit card for a 400 pesos bill but George told me that they have no credit card terminal. I have to gather literally all my cash to pay the bill. Of course for tip was not much left that made George angry. Two days later I took my friend back because the soup was delicious. The bill come out around 800 pesos . We gave George 1000 pesos. He told us that he is running low with cash. My friend like ok than this diner was free ( since we though no credit card is accepted). George immediately responded that we can pay by credit card which was surprising . He want to take my credit card but I told him I am coming with him.while a lady was charging on my card George telling me that I need to give a nice tip which is for the personal not for him. I got really upset and I didn’t put on credit card any tip and left with my friend. I don’t think I will ever or my friend return to this place and make sure that many expats know about our incident. There is two building further another fish place where the service was excellent...
Read moreWent for supper here. I was told the Coconut shrimp were really good, so we ventured out for supper to try them. I had the Coconut shrimp, and it was OK. Lots of batter and lots of coconut… took a bit of eating to find the prawn underneath it, but not a bad flavour. My husband had “ beef tenderloin“ and prawns…. Prawns were cold and looked like they had been sitting on a side plate for awhile, and the “steak” was of an unknown origin. We couldn’t figure out what it actually was. It was like a pork chop but more pressed “meat” type thing. We didn’t eat it and sent it back. They still charged us for it on the bill, but we went to the manager and complained, and they finally took the charge off. The staff is below par… you feel like you are dealing with a slimy car salesman. We won’t go back again, and now know why there aren’t many people here. It is usually empty, therefore it has room for large tables of tourists that unfortunately have no other place to go with room available for them all. The floor is sand, so the bugs are out and biting as well… they do have bug...
