Having been there twice recently for breakfast, I will report my consistent experiences. Pro: The locals and expats rave about this place. It is busy, so that says something. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The back open courtyard area is spacious and comfortable. El Nicho serves breakfast well past 12 noon. [many other local places stop serving breakfast at 11am]. The menu is broad, and offers many healthy options, including fruit plate, yogurt, as well as egg dishes and many juices, including green juice.
However, in both of my visits, the following were consistent. The menu clearly states that with the breakfast egg orders [I made 2 different orders on the 2 different visits], there is included roasted tomatoes, refried black beans, and toasted bread. On both of my orders, the black beans came out as a small salsa type container of black bean liquid. What does one do with that? The tomatoes were omitted in both orders. I had to call the waitress over, point out the menu, and ask for the tomatoes. For a place with a good reputation, these are management and kitchen oversight flaws. There were many flies at my table on the most recent visit. Perhaps the table was not fully cleaned after the last guest. El Nicho, I hope you can do...
Read moreWe had breakfast here this morning and it was lovely. We were a little hesitant because of all the recent negative reviews but it was recommended by many people we met during our stay. We sat near the front so it was breezy. If you sit out back where it's more sheltered, it'll be hot. Pretty simple to understand... Mexico is hot, right?
The service was good. 2 people took care of us, both were helpful and polite. The food was great. I had the tacos El nicho, my partner had an egg dish with chorizo and goat cheese. Both were fantastic. The guac is very oniony, so be aware, if you're not into that. The chilies moka was good! Hot but good. We took some pastries to go.
Overall, we had a nice time and we're glad we didn't listen to the...
Read moreHad this for breakfast on a Friday morning and it was busy but we were able to sit right down. Ordered a latte and an orange drink, they came in good time. Ordered chicken and waffles and blueberry waffles that came with whipped cream and fruits. The waffles were both quite good. The chicken looked like it had been seasoned well but it was barely flavored at all. Extremely disappointed in that, especially with the rave reviews. It just kind of sucked. Maybe we're spolied because where we come from it's easy to find good fried chicken and waffles. Anyways, skip the chicken and waffles maybe there was something better on the menu. My husband said the bacon that came with the chicken and waffles was quite tasty so...
