Papacito — Restaurant in Quintana Roo

Hubby and I dropped by last night to join friends and we were looking forward to a snack drinks and country music followed by latin. The country musician was there but the latin musician who is supposed to be good could not make it. The server said that this has happened a few times this month. The server was excellent and very attentive. My friends still enjoyed a few dances with the excellent country musician. He rewrote a song to add our friend into the lyrics of one song and thoroughly delighted them. What a great performance!

The server said that he forgot his guitar or he would try a few chords. Great guy and has a good sense of humour as he actually doesn’t play guitar. We ate a late breakfast here after sleeping in after a busy travel day yesterday. The staff was very friendly. We loved the ambience which was quite relaxed. Because we visited in October, way before peak season, we were able to get a curbside table and were treated to able to watch a dolphin training session being held in the little cabana on the opposite shore. Overall the experience was great. However the food was only so-so. My wife enjoyed her fruit plate. I was initially disappointed with my huevos rancheros until I realized the food simply needed some spice. Simple salt and pepper really enhanced the food. A hot pepper sauce would have been even better. This may have been the first time I ever added salt to Mexican food. We also had a fruit plate. While the portion size was great, the fruit was quite tasteless such that both of us wondered if it had been partially cooked in the hot...

Beware if you are paying in US dollars. Their unposted exchange rate is 15 pesos to the dollar while the official rate is over 20 pesos to the dollar. Our $67 bill became an $89 bill since their credit card machine was conveniently ‘broken’. Our server did not get a tip because of it and we did not go back.

It’s a shame because we enjoyed the food, my margarita was solid and the service was decent. As we were walking by today they were giving another American dad the ‘15 Pesos to the dollar’ speech and he had the same look on his face that I did at being taken advantage of while just trying to get his family lunch.
