Best dinner experience in 20 years of traveling to Mexico!
Reviews looked good so I wondered down right after sunset to see if there were any tables open. Roland greeted me as if I was a cherished old friend returning home. I asked him if he had room for 7 with a variety of dietary needs. “Of course my friend! but first do you drink tequila? Come have a shot with me!” We enjoyed a delicious Don Julio reposado and made small talk before he left me in the capable hands of his waitstaff. He accommodated every dietary desire my family had, and even indulged my aunt’s flirtations 💖
The grilled fish platter was far better than anything else I’ve eaten on any Mexico trip. The fish was perfectly fried - tender yet safely cooked through with a crisp crackle of skin. The crabs were very different from my accustomed Pacific Northwest Dungeness crab but still crunchy deliciousness (I hope to bring them some oysters and crab from home on my next visit). The salad was not only deliciously refreshing, but also a needed reprieve from constant carbs and protein. And the Rib eyes tasted like the organic buttery Kobe I had in Kyoto (almost like a super tender pork chop) with a delightful thick au jus style steak sauce.
The atmosphere is a EuroMex fusion. Street performers entertained with fire dancing and acrobatics while NBA Finals reruns played from a projector that entranced my brother. I really could not have envisioned a more perfect dinner.
Thank you Roland and Marino staff for providing a deliciously perfect evening, highlight of our trip! Instant favorite!! Also the price was very reasonable - felt like...
Read moreDear Google community. Warning ⚠️Roland. This guy is a big rip off (une escroquerie, una farsa) Don’t ever take the boat trip. The owner will try to convince you by saying: “catch your fish and you will eat it for free at my restaurant”. You will be over charged at least 1’500 pesos x person, served a flat ceviche, almost disgusting during the most boring boat trip of your life. He took us two hours far away from the village, to the most touristic places in Puerto Vallarta cause probably he doesn’t have the autorisation to fish in San Pancho. But the worst of the experience, it wasn’t when he pretended to see a whale, it was when he started throwing “tostadas” corn flat tortillas in the ocean to feed the birds. As an animal lover that’s the last thing you should do. Instead, i would recommend you to look for the locals Mexican fisherman such as Pando, ask for him in the village. Everyone knows him. Real fisher man, animal lover, super nice guy and here is my list of best restaurants in San Pancho: Limbo (Diner), Cielo Rojo (Lunch) and Marii (Breakfast). You can text me directly. I’ll be more than happy to give you more...
Read moreCame here for dinner hoping to have some really good fresh fish. I found the menu a bit limiting as I have a shrimp allergy. They were also out of fresh Mahi Mahi and I wasn’t in the mood for a tuna steak. The waiter was great, spoke fluent English and recommended a few things. He also made sure to note that I had an allergy. He recommended the Fish Wok, which is a fish fried rice with tempura mahi mahi.
The owner (Rolando?) is a French chef that catches all the seafood every morning. Throughout the night I saw him stop at every single table and made everyone laugh and smile.
When my food arrived I was surprised to cantaloupe on my bowl with my fried rice lol! I asked the owner about it and he offered profusely to change it for me if I didn’t like it. I love melon but i just wasn’t expecting to see that at all.
The fish wok was honestly okay. There was cauliflower and mushrooms in it. Not very flavourful. Personally not my favourite but I would’ve loved to try to mahi mahi if it...
