I basically write reviews when a service or product exceeds what I expect (for good or bad). This time was for bad. But trying to be precise (and expecting the owners may consider these comments for future costumers), these are some experiences I had:
The restaurant is part of a food market where the waitress is kind of lost when you arrive. Actually the people in the front door did not have a clue if there is an Indian restaurant in the market place.
Once I reached the place, I ordered a Chiken Tika Masala, a Basmati rice and a piece of plain nan. The water or drinks must be ordered to the waitress because the food market has this policy of charging drinks and food in separate bills. A bit annoying when the waitress is slow.
While I was ordering to one of the cookers (never had the clue if I had to order to the waitress or to who), the cooker mentioned that the Basmati rice was not the classic Basmati (giving a glance that they had received complaints before). And well, the rice was certainly not a Basmati, but what produced me a mix of disappointment and fun (a real tragedy) was that the rice was a flavorless and lumpy rice (not sure if cooked in the microwave oven).
Well, I was expecting to mix it with the chicken tika masala, but these was also a disappointment. The worst ever I tried (not sure if it had curry). The only positive point about it was that the chicken was tender and juicy. I guess, they are trying to provide more friendly flavors (Indian food is not for all the stomachs, I know).
And well, they forgot the nan. But let me tell you that once I re ordered it, the nan is really good.
I would be unfair if I’d forget to mention that the cooker is friendly and fast. Really appreciated her help while the waitress was somewhere lost in a place with a few clients.
Anyway, the bill was $333Mxn in total (plus $30Mxn for the water paid in a separate bill -gosh). Too many 3’s made me think that I might be lucky for...
Read more2022: My wife found this place on Google maps. We were very surprised to find an entire food court hidden behind the doorway. The food was very good and spicy. We had shrimp jalfrezi and chicken Rogan Josh. We would definitely have either dish again, or try the many other options available. Great little place!
2023: Returned to SMA, returned to Bhaji. This place continues to be 5-star for us. Spicy, flavorful, yum yum yum! We had the Rogan Josh chicken (again) and the Ceylon chicken. Bhaji will be a regular stop for us as we...
Read moreMy wife and I had dinner at Bhaji Curry House. The dishes had Indian names, but were not authentic. The mango lassi was very watery. The onion pakoras were dense and chewy. The chicken vindaloo (which the menu said was the spiciest dish of the house) was not spicy at all. The garlic naan had no garlic or butter, and was thin and dense. The rice was either old or undercooked (some grains were semi-transparent).
Overall the flavors were OK, but the quality doesn't match that of most Indian restaurants (especially...
