A Solid Thai Option in San Miguel! This Thai restaurant in San Miguel de Allende is a bit of a hidden gem, literally! It's in a good, central location, but you head down a set of somewhat steep stairs to the basement level to find the seating area. The place was clean on both of our visits for dinner, and while it wasn't bustling with guests, we actually enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. A huge shout-out to our waiter, Kevin Jared. He was the lone waiter during our visits and was incredibly professional, super polite, and genuinely nice. He was also really helpful with recommending dishes, which we appreciated since we were trying a lot of different things. Now, onto the main event: the food! We were determined to try a good variety of Thai dishes in San Miguel, so over two consecutive dinners, we ordered a feast for two. We had Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Tom Yum and Udon soups, Rollos de Camaron (shrimp rolls), Panang Curry, sweet and sour vegetables, and fried bananas for dessert. Yes, it was a lot of food, but we were on a mission! Overall, there were some definite hits and misses. We absolutely loved the Rollos de Camaron, the Tom Yum soup, the sweet and sour vegetables with tofu, and of course, the fried bananas for dessert were a perfect ending. However, the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew were just okay for us. Despite a few dishes not being standouts, we'd definitely come back on our next trip to San Miguel. It's also worth noting that this seems to be the only Thai restaurant in town that we know of, so it's a good spot to...
Read moreFirst time here 5 stars, second time 1 star so averaging 3.
The wait staff is amazing, Jaime is a hustler and works Soo hard and is very nice. We had another waiter too who was outstanding.
The problem lies with their boss/owner. Our second time we walk in there is a cute full grown dog in the middle of the restaurant. This isn't a customer dog, it is the owner's dog. The dog then proceeds to pee in the middle of the floor in front of us the owner and one other table. The owner laughs and walks towards us to seat us. I thought maybe he didn't see the obvious pee so I point and said "you know he peed there" and the owner laughs and says "yes he's a puppy". He then leaves and continues to seat new customers at the tables around the pee without cleaning it. 10 minutes go by and I remind him about the pee, he then acted like he never saw it and I didn't tell him 10 min earlier.
We then ask to give our order even though we didn't want to stay after the pee incident but nothing else was open for vegans at the time. The owner said he would take take our order and we had to wait for the waiter, who was alone on the floor taking 6 table orders and making drinks. Finally he agrees to take our order after we wait for 15 min. Turns out he doesn't speak English OR Spanish. I speak both languages fluently and could not communicate with him to take our order. Of course, our order came out wrong. Won't be going back unfortunately. This place needs better management and...
Read moreThe vegetarian options tasted NOTHING like the tasty vegetarian Thai food we’ve had all over the world. Super bland. You can make VERY flavorful Thai food without fish sauce!!! Use more and better spices! Most of the meat eaters in our group were equally unimpressed. Also, four out of five of us got sick afterward, both meat eaters and vegetarians, which is extremely unusual for all of us. The rice in the mango sticky rice tasted very weird, too. Not worth the cost. Furthermore, they kept serving everyone in the order in which we ordered our food, so by the time the last to order got her food the rest of us either had cold food or had finished our food, depending on whether we had waited. One cook apparently couldn’t handle orders for a group. Sorry, we really, really wanted to like this restaurant, but just NO. There’s a reason this place only had two tables filled at prime...
