I think this is the typical example of an overrated place, in my humble opinion, the score should be significantly lower than it actually is, let me explain:
Regarding the taste of the food: We ordered chilaquiles, churros, enmoladas and enchiladas, none of them were above average, they didn't taste bad at all, but they are definitely not remarkable, at least I was expecting the churros to be the best I'd had in my life, but they tasted exactly the same as in every Mexican town, no innovation, just plain and simple stuffed or single churros, I'm Mexican and I've tested all those dishes many times, none of them would fit in my top 100.
Regarding the place: Very small and uncomfortable (not cozy as I read in the comments), tables are super close to each other. I definitely don't recommend to go with a child in a stroller, you won't be able to get the stroller in, so your baby will have to sit in your lap. Also they don't accept credit/debit cards, everything has to be paid in cash.
Regarding the service: They were not rude, but not polite either, just neutral and gave me the impression of being super overwhelmed. There was just one waiter for 8 tables approximately, poor guy, I'm sure he tried his best. One other guy making the churros, also overwhelmed, churros have a high demand so, if you're planning to have some to take out, then you'll have to wait at least 20 minutes, if everything goes well. If you're planning to get a table to eat there, there's a waiting list of 40 min - 1 hour approximately. Not that it would impact too much but the staff doesn't speak English, I saw a lovely couple asking for the time to wait to get a table and they were having troubles to communicate with the hostess, I helped a little and the couple decided to leave.
In summary, I recommend going somewhere else that's less crowded, you are not losing any remarkable experience by missing this place. I'm sure you can get better churros and better breakfast in another...

While exploring Querétaro, locals insisted we couldn't miss Cafe San Agustin during our visit to San Miguel de Allende - and they were absolutely right. This charming cafe, nestled in the heart of San Miguel, has built its reputation on their churros, and after experiencing them firsthand, I understand the buzz.
The highlight was undoubtedly their perfect pairing of churros and hot chocolate. Their hot chocolate deserves special mention - rich and velvety, it served as the perfect companion to the churros.
Beyond their signature items, what stood out was the warm, attentive service. The staff made me and my fiancée feel welcomed, and their genuine hospitality added to the overall charm of the place. We even got to meet Margarita Gralia, who owns the place.
For those visiting San Miguel de Allende, Cafe San Agustin isn't just another cafe - it's a must-visit destination. When even people from Querétaro are recommending it, you know it's something special. Whether you're a churros enthusiast or simply looking for a delightful cafe experience, this place delivers...
Read moreThe night before, witnessing the lengthy queue almost wrapping around the block, I couldn't help but wonder what all the fuss was about. I decided to investigate the next morning, arriving at a relatively quieter 10 am and being seated promptly. I opted for a hot chocolate Mexicano, which boasted a subtle sweetness with a delightful hint of cinnamon. Alongside it, I indulged in two plain churros and one generously stuffed with Nutella. The churros were very fresh, fried to perfection without any lingering oily aftertaste. The distinct taste of the hot chocolate added a unique touch to the overall experience. While my breakfast was enjoyable, I couldn't quite grasp the hype surrounding this place. Despite the quality of the churros and the pleasant experience, I wouldn't wait more than 5 minutes to be seated. For churro enthusiasts eager to satisfy their cravings, I'd recommend opting for a takeaway rather than enduring a long wait...
