Charming restaurant perfect for a date or solo. Loved their attention to high quality ingredients and how attentive they were. I had a great Mexican wine, grilled Caesar salad and the papardelle. I would love to see this place succeed as the hospitality is great and I love that they use organic vegetables and make their own pasta. The bread with fresh rosemary was lovely, the salad was good but could be refined some... like, they put two giant halves of a romaine lettuce on the plate and a delicious anchovy dressing on top but I feel like they should have split the halves once further so the lettuce could be further grilled and the dressing distribution more even. Current presentation didn't allow them to showcase the high quality ingredients as well as they could, they could have served with half the amount of lettuce and had a better dish. This was the same issue with the pasta, which arrived only warm and not hot... clearly house made delicious noodles but the noodle serving was too big and the sauce was a little bland. It was a meat ragu and they needed to add double the meat, more carrot, and celery and onion, maybe some nutmeg, more olive oil or some butter, they need to delve deeper into exploring these simple dishes. I absolutely love the rustic simplicity of Italian food but you have to know the ratios of the ingredients and the seasoning very well to pull off these simple dishes beautifully. I would recommend the chef buy the Marcella Hazan cookbook and try her recipes then modify for the restaurant... this will really elevate the food. I'm guessing the pizzas might be more successful here judging by the garlic...
Read moreFabulous attentive staff, smiling and gracious, using translate app when they couldn’t explain in English. Great views of the city, we were there at sunset to watch the sun go down and see the beautiful churches. Had the roasted beet salad with goat cheese ( excellent, done perfectly) and the pepperoni pizza, true Napolitano style, tasty and a little bit chewy crust, just right! We shared both dishes and was plenty for us, even took a piece of pizza home. Tried the Colima beer, very nice. And the wine selection also very good, only had a glass each as bottles are pretty pricey ( sorry, forgot to take a pic of menu). Hostess offered throws to patrons as it grew cooler. We will go back and already know what we’ll have! Thanks to previous reviews. You need to be able to climb 2 flights of stairs to get to rooftop terrace. ( we had gone earlier in the day to scope it out and made a reservation for dinner...
Read moreWhat a great find! The owner (Juan) talked to us on the street. He was so nice but we already had dinner. We decided had to give his restaurant a chance, and so glad we did!
La Favolosa has a simple menu of Salads, Pastas and Pizzas. We really love when a restaurant focuses on a few items and just does them well. Ordered the roasted vegetables and sausage pizza. Both were excellent!
The setting is wonderful on the rooftop. Drinks were very good and reasonably priced. Just had a fabulous night.
(Interestingly we ran into Juan at City Market the next day and ended up talking to him for 20 minutes. He gave us some great travel recommendations around Mexico, plus highlighted best other SMA restaurants to try -- and few not to try :-). Really love Juan's passion for his...
