PANIO Relox — Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

I had three experiences with this place and none of them were great. First, my husband and I stopped in for coffee and he got a sandwich to go. The coffees were okay, if a little slow. The next day, in the afternoon, he went himself and got me a flat white and a sandwich. He came right home and gave me the sandwich. I opened it up and it was warm and soggy, very unpleasant! I tried to salvage the cheese off the sandwich and was just like styrofoam, no flavor. We threw it out, so he basically bought and paid for trash. The third time, early in the morning, I wanted to just grab some sandwiches (on the assumption the fresh sandwiches are good). There was a line out the door! Why?! This is not the only coffee shop or the best coffee shop, and the service is obviously very slow. Good pastries, good coffee. Not affordable but good quality. Bad service. Three stars because I bought a coffee and 3 pastries to go, and they refused to bag them separately. I explained that it would make it easier for me and my husband to eat them, (one for me, two for him). Grudgingly they gave me a tiny bag for my croissant, obviously too small, she tried to stuff it, was crushing it and digging her fingers all over it so I told her to stop! I am happy to pay a premium for really good pastries but really, you cannot give me an extra bag if I asked for it?! I pay over $200 pesos and you cannot spare a $1 peso bag? It made me very upset...

They offer an amazing variety of options, but the standout for me was the sourdough bread—bought my second loaf today and I’m still drooling over how fresh it is.
