The food is great prices are not excesive the only reason I am not given this place 5 stars is the waiter. We were a group of 11 adults 2 kids we seperated the group into 2 tables ,the waiter took my tables order about 15 minutes later we got our food which like I mentioned was really good I went ahead and asked if he could split the receipt ( we were 3 couples on my table) he said they could not do that so I figured once we got the receipt it would be fairly simple to split it between the 3 couples. We were half way through our food when he finally took the other table's order so we basically had to wait for the other part of our group. Here comes the good part I asked for the receipt when I get it the amount is almost twice what the people on my table and myself had consume , I asked the waiter and he had put both tables on the receipt I mean really the tables were completely seperate so now we had to spend 20 minutes figuring out who ate what and exchanging money across the room. Another thing that I really didnt like is that after that unplesent situation the waiter says WE HAVE TO tip him 15% of what we consume really??? We were absolutly unsatisfied with his service but yet we HAD TO GIVE HIM A GOOD TIP? I personally always make sure I leave a decent tip and add if the service was good but for him to request a certain amount and basically force us to pay it is not the type of thing that makes people want to go back ,he ruin part...
Read moreIt was a run of the mill restaurant, with nice atmosphere, good food, and attentive service, but nothing to write home about. I started with the Three Cheese Fundita, and to be gimmicky, they torched it at the table, and unnecessarily set tequila on fire and poured it over the cheese. Don't get me wrong, it was excellent, but I'd much rather had them properly make it in the kitchen and bring it out, so I could eat! I followed with the Molcajete, which was awesome! While the chicken itself lacked seasoning, there was plenty of items to offset it's blandness. The nopales, cheese, peppers, chorizo, onions and salsa were all flavorful and added to the dish. For dessert, I basically had a chocolate tamale, which was good, but the cajete ice cream that accompanied it was phenomenal. Cajete is a caramel like sauce that originated in the region, so it was fun to try that. My friend had a steak and enchilada dish. The enchiladas were also the highlight, as the steak was overcooked and lacked seasoning. His dessert was the crispy crepes and cajete ice cream, and he too thought the ice cream was amazing. The crepes were more like crispy, thin cookies cut into strips like a haystack, and were difficult to navigate. I'd go back to Pueblo Viejo, but I think there are other culinary delights to be...
Read moreThis is one of the best places to eat in downtown San Miguel... the food is simply marvelous, everything we ate was so tasty, real Mexican cuisine: temperature was precise, no greasy stuff, some plates spicy enough that you'll cheer your taste buds, but still able to digest your food without getting red faced đ. You gotta have as entrie plate the shrimp tacos in a Jicama tortilla, you'll love them. Drinks were also as good as the food, for us it was the frozen margaritas (limon was my favourite).
The atmosphere was magnificent (beautiful decorations, table sets, comfy chairs), the service incredible, all hosts and waiters were so courteous (and all speak English), some weekend nights they have a local band playing instrumental melodies (easy for your ears), restrooms clean. As this is in downtown, there is no parking or valet in the restaurant, but there are plenty of public parking places near it. In terms of costs, it wasn't that pricey compared to other places that have the same level of standards ($74 USD for 2 persons dinner with 2 course meals, 2 cocktails, 2 beers and coffee).
In general, a place you need to try while in San Miguel, you...
