My wife and I have always loved this restaurant and we were in the habit of going there at least twice during every visit to SMA. But this year, during our visit with friends and family, we were seriously disappointed with the food. In past, the sushi was well prepared and tasty, but more recently our two orders of sushi – tuna and salmon – were very poor, and the fried fish was tasteless. The sushi rice was mushy and unpleasant. We also ordered 3 Caesar salads, each of which arrived with a single anchovy. When we requested a few extra anchovies, they brought us a bowl with a huge amount (which we didn’t need or want and which we mostly left) and then proceeded to charge us 90 pesos x 3 for a total of 270 pesos or US$16.
The service, as usual, was not great. We have found that it doesn’t appear that there is ever anyone who is in charge. No one ever came to ask how the food is etc. And this year was even worse because the waiters had a problem even understanding our orders from the English menu. This has been the case for many years, but we tolerated it because the food was very good. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. When we asked to see a manager to complain after the meal, the person who came did not apologize, although he did take off the price of the additional anchovies and did not charge for the dessert. The only good part of the meal was the patatas bravas, tostadas and the dessert, as well as the water with cucumbers etc. I should also note that the prices for wine and cocktails have risen astronomically compared to past years. While I understand that COVID had an impact on pricing, this is far more and would not be affordable for...
Read moreI am so sad… this is by far the most expensive lunch I’ve had in San Miguel and far and away the most disappointing.
I ordered a Caesar salad because it said it came with anchovies… I figured it would have to be authentic and good if they served anchovies. So, so wrong. It was slathered in this weird mayonnaise type dressing. Like, I was scraping it off there was so much. I asked for pepper; they don’t have a grinder, just the little shaker you get at a bad diner.
The other thing I ordered was Iberca ham and a Spanish goat cheese on toast points.
The ham was fine. Shaved like prosciutto as it should be. The cheese was a huge thick chunk, and the crostini was this thick slice of toast - almost an inch thick. They had put something under the cheese (never identified) that made it soggy. I don’t mean not toasted/crisp… I mean wet. I picked the ham off and a bit of the cheese and that was all I could stomach.
My lunch bill was more than several very good dinners (including cocktails).
I’m going to have to go find a tamale cart to restore my faith in food...
Read moreFirst I would like to say my previous dining experiences at Bistro 300 have been wonderful. However, last nights meal was somewhat different. As always the meal was very good but processing the bill left me somewhat uncomfortable. The waitress took my credit card and I requested a 15% tip which she understood. She even used her calculator on her phone. When she handed me the receipt there was a 20% tip. I explained the difference in tip and she brought it back to the owner or manager. She came back to the table and gave me the difference between the a15% tip and the 20% tip in cash with no explanation and left. No one ever came up to our table to discuss or explain the difference in the tip. Actually a table of 4 came in while we were waiting to correct the tip and it appeared the staff was more concerned with getting them seated. Now I know it's not a big deal or a lot of money but a little explanation can go a long way. Also please...
