Since we live just 3 blocks away, we keep trying Gaia Bistrot and leaving disappointed. Our first meals in 2016-17 were delicious and we looked forward to having yet another top restaurant so close to our house. But, after our move was completed a year later, our return meal was just average. With so many options, we avoided Gaia until last week when good friends praised their vegan pizza. My order of baked ribs was ghastly - more rib / gristle/ fat than meat and the homemade sauce the ribs were slathered with didn't help. "Baked Ribs" should have been warning enough - the worst entree I remember in four years in Mazatlan. My wife had little better to say about her simple pepperoni, olive, mushroom pizza. The thin layer of sauce had neither tomato color nor flavor, the cheese was bland and indistinct, and the toppings average for Mazatlan. The thin crust had little above to complement. The service was attentive, friendly, and undermined by the poor meals. We also had to move twice to escape the loudspeaker of the accompanied singer - volume set to attract business across the entire plaza, I presume, at a level that is damaging to hearing (a chronic issue in Mexico - loud because everyone has hearing loss before adulthood?). We like to converse with others while dining while enjoying background music. You can do neither at Gaia and too many other restaurants (that are also off our list). Not...
Read moreWe were here last week to to have dinner after attending the Art Walk. There was live music so we reserved a table. We were a group of 10 people. The food was good and the music was really nice but our waiter ( Oscar ) was so bad it ruined the entire evening. He was having a real bad night and was constantly verbally abusing the other staff. This was tough to watch as the other staff were doing their best but they could not please this guy. Once it came time to pay the bill it was a disaster. When we originally ordered we specified we wanted separate bills and who should be on each bill. He brought us one bill and was really mad when we reminded him we wanted separate bills. He eventually brought out separate bills but they were not even close to what each person had. It took several iterations to get it right and he was really rude through the entire process. It must have taken 45 minutes to get things straight and pay. We will certainly never return and could not recommend this...
Read moreNice setting in historical section, food and price questionable We were a group of 6 For Valentine, when we made reservation were asked to pay 50%up front, this for me was the first red flag,we got there and the staff were all in confusion, the serving started late so they rush us,they served the dinner and dessert at the same time leaving very small place on the table. The filet mignon was good it could be better if they make improvement on the tasteless gravy.BREAD WAS STALE. We order a special mineral water VIEN EXPENSIVE,WHEN I GOT HOME i started to investigate about the water and later in few days THE DOCUMENT RECEIVED FROM VIEN WATER stated unfortunately the vien water sold in mexico is a FAKE COPY at this point, not sure the provenience of the water with expensive price tag. I do not mind to pay a lot for a good dinner, however if the food is not at par then there is not e second chance,if you drive a car be prepared to walk,it is hard to find parking FOR THE MONEY...
