Saturday. December 30, 2024. Dinner.
We walked here from our hotel, Penasco del Sol. This walk took about 30 minutes. This restaurant is on top of a hill, overlooking the ocean. Our view at sunset was spectacular and rarified. The restaurant stood empty of patrons except for my wife and I and another couple inside. The waiter told us this was because of the border closing at Lukeville, Arizona. He said the restaurant typically overflowed with tourists around New Years. Even our hotel and its parking lot were relatively empty.
I ordered the Brocheta de Camaron, for $18. The Brocheta came with steamed vegetables (snappy, not fully cooked), rice, baked potato with butter, and 200 grams of shrimp on a skewer with soggy bacon, onion, green and red peppers. This did come with a small salad on the side. I ordered a Michelada with Indio beer, for an unknown amount since this wasn't on either side of the laminated menu. Watch out when ordering cocktails. Maybe ask them the price? We ordered guacamole with our chips, which was $8, ouch! This place is pricey, and the food is bland and unseasoned, so you are definitely paying for the view. Even the guacamole tasted unseasoned, like plain, mashed avocados. The Michelada was good and so was the Cadillac margarita that followed it. They gave us a coupon for 1/2 price entree on a subsequent visit, from 10 to 4 pm.
We visited this restaurant again, using the aforementioned coupon, on January 1, New Years Day, for lunch. Note: this coupon can only be used for entrees on the front page of the menu. On this visit, two other parties besides us sat inside the restaurant, like we did, since it was a bit chilly outside. This time I ordered the Camarones Thermidor, for $18. This included 200 grams of shrimp, cooked with mushrooms, white wine and melted cheese. This came with rice and the same steamed vegetables, which were undercooked. This second time around was better because of the coupon.
If you can visit here with a coupon, then it would be well worth it. You can currently find this coupon in the Rocky Point Times newspaper, towards the back, around page 69. The view is amazing, the food is average/bland, and the price would be less. You'd have to come for lunch or a very early...
Read moreUnbelievable.... we ordered two skinny margaritas which we have many many times in the past as we live in RP part of the year. When we tasted them, they were very sour. They tasted like the rine of the lime. We asked our waiter to take them back and ordered two beers instead. He wanted to know why and we told him they didn't taste right. A few minutes later the elderly woman whom I have seen there working for years and assumed was the manager came to our table upset. She said " you got what you ordered, a skinny margarita, it doesn't have sugar". I replied "it wasn't about the sugar, rather it tasted way too sour and we couldn't drink it". We have had many skinny margaritas and they don't taste like this. She said " well, now I guess I have to throw them away and threw her hands up in the air while walking away. We were scolded and humiliated. We asked for our appetizer to be wrapped up and to cancel our dinner order and we were going to leave. A couple minutes later, she came back to our table and said the lime juice wasnt good and apologized. Although I can appreciate how hard it must have been for her to apologize, she still should never ever treat a customer that way. You would also think our chips/guacamole and two beers would have been comp'd.... NOPE! We will never...
Read moreWent here for lunch on Wednesday over our spring break stay. Views from the restaurant are very nice it was too windy for us to sit outside which was understandable. The decor felt slightly dirty and needed updating. We had a part of 8 they were nice enough to split our bill but half our group received their meal and were done with their meal by the time the other half were served. Calamari was decent others in our part ordered fried seafood and were not impressed I did order the flounder cooked in tin foil and it was very good.
The main reason for the 2 star rating was on the menu it said 50% off entrees with a coupon. We didn’t know about the coupon but looked it up online and had a picture of it on our phones. The waiter without prompting by us at the end asked if we had a coupon and we said yes here it is on our phones but they would only accept it if it was printed out. While I understand rules and the like it left a bad feeling for us in that each couple paid an additional $30-40 US dollars for our meals because we weren’t in the know. Had they not printed it in their menus or had their waiter ask us if we had one we wouldn’t have known and felt cheated. Just seems like a strange way to...
