Konoba 'Lanterna' Podgorica — Restaurant in Podgorica

I have been to many places but I can say Konoba Lanterna is the best place I have ever been to. If i could, I would have given them a 10 stars out of five. I had no specific expectations but this was perfect.

The ambient is very cozy with a bit medieval influence; it is not a huge restaurant but rather middle sized, which I liked. I was there on Saturday evening and there was a duo playing live music. I was afraid of that as I was sure it would be impossible to talk, but the sound system was good and the volume was not extreme! The ourdoor terrace seemed great and I am looking forward to experience it when the weather gets better! Next, the food - it was the best calamari I have had so far. The portion was very big and even when I was starving, I was not able to finish it totally. Upon return 2 days later and the trout was perfect as well. And, one of the best things was their Trilece, I have never had a better one even if it is a simple cake. Not only that, the piece of a cake was huge and easy to share although I did not want to as it was so tasty :))) The food choice is also very diverse - you can find everything from the local specialties to international universal food like pizza or pasta.

Equally important - the staff was extremely nice and polite, they should be an example of everyone. I worked as a waitress/caterer and even so, I am usually the person that does not pay attention to the staff as long as the food is good but this blew my mind. Waiter Dušan, was serving both days and he was just beyond nice, professional and really knew his way around - as well as the other waiter. He took care of coats, belongings, recommended the dishes, offered their special shot with lemon and honey (which was amazing even for me, and i am not the shot person!). Everything was served within reasonable time and taken away this way as well. I asked if it is possible can get an airport taxi as well and Dušan immediately took action and organized the ride with his colleague! Last but not least - their attitude to animals! I am a cat lover and was amazed that they let their "home" cat roam free as I'm sure most restaurants would have shoo-ed them away. It created very pleasant atmosphere. The cat came to sit on my lap and enjoyed cuddling; she later tried to steal my fish which was adorable :) but the staff was not annoyed and they clearly cared about their well being.

Place like this makes me look forward to visit Podgorica again, even if just to visit the restaurant and I will recommend Lanterna...

Everything was perfect, great value for the money, big portions and very nice environment and it would have been 5 stars if our waiter didn't make a big scene, and stormed out the room like in a soap opera, because we didn't give tips. We had to go to the entrance to pay, because the waiter didn't check on us (which is completely fine of course). We had no cash, he wrote full amount on the terminal, we paid, and then came the hissy fit instantly after. Two other people who works there tried to explain why and how etc etc. But we were given no time or hint that this was extremely vital to do, to avoid this behavior. Usually we add tips, especially if we have cash, but the waiter just entered the amount, and that was that. We couldn't exchange our 50 euro bill (of course), so after all their explanations, we asked if we could just pay tips through the terminal (and we did), and we only did it, to show we are above such uncivilized behavior.

My wife and i have traveled to countless of countries and especially restaurants and we have never experienced such behavior before, so take our advice and stay away.

Also while i'm writing, we just found out the waiter entered 69 euro instead of our full price 63 euro (before we gave 10 euro tip), so we can only say what a disgusting and scamming place, we checked EVERYTHING with...

The waiters are extremely kind and pleasant trying their best to make the whole experience special. The only thing I had issue with is the food. Maybe I also opted for dishes that are not their best. Chicken soup and chicken in sauce which I had were both way too salty. The soup had so much chicken in it that it almost looked as if it was not a soup. For the main dish I got mushroom sauce with chicken, and I found literally the whole raw mushroom in it, the other mushrooms were also raw. The waiter was extremely kind of course and offered another dish so I really give them credit for this, their staff is superb! On the other side the vegetable soup my boyfriend had was perfect! The vegetable wasnt frozen but you could taste it was fresh so I really recommend this. He also had stuffed chicken as a main dish, good but nothing special.
