Restaurant Al Hamrae — Restaurant in arrondissement de Tanger-Medina طنجة المدينة

This place was amazing! My wife and I were walking around letting life (God, universe, etc) guide us to where will be the best, as we usually do. After a failed attempt at going to a rather famed seafood place that was closing up, we stumbled into this gem. After all, I don't really believe in looking for a place from reviews. It's much more fun and interesting, albeit sometimes more time consuming, to wander until the right place finds you instead of the you looking for it.

The owner was there outside talking to us. He showed us all the fresh fish in the case that we could have. Choose your dinner! I opted to get the most odd looking fish I've ever seen... The monkfish, from the deep waters of the East Mediterranean. I'll always try anything new, especially if I've never seen it or had the chance before. My wife had a mixed seafood stew of sorts. They started us with bread and house soup. WOW! So delicious! Every bite was heavenly.

Stay away from this place, shit service, the waiter didn’t stop talking at us, I asked for grilled fish and he said no take friture de poisson it’s better for you , then when we said ok but I didn’t want it fried, he said it’s grilled instead, but when the fish came it was fried. He said that was grilled, now you look at that dish and you judge if it’s fried or grilled. He kept interrupting us and talking at us, he even asked for a glass of coke. Please save your money and go somewhere else.

The downtown Restaurant Al Hamrae has been in its Rue Mexique location for over 35 years. It has a dozen or so tables with red and white checkered tablecloths, at tables inside and outside. There is a distinctive red awning over the tables outside.

The chef cooks or grills delicious fresh shrimp, calamari, fresh fishes, couscous, brochettes, vegetables, soups, salads and deserts.
