The food here was good… the experience was not. Me and a friend booked a cooking class that was a huge disappointment and showed very unprofessional and rude behavior in the staff. Even though they knew we were coming, when we entered the kitchen we immediately feel that we were in the way and that the other ladies cooking didn’t want us there. None of them really acknowledged us or greeted us. I speak Darija, not Tashelhit, but we definitely felt that the women were talking about us, especially my friend who is Asian. I kept hearing “le chinois” (Chinese people) and laughter. At the end when I explained in Arabic that our experience was not very good and not worth the price (250 dh per person!) the woman working with us got very angry and made up a bunch of excuses for our complaints. Stopped by for a rest after touring the Casbah. Had tea and the most delicious cookies! Some with anise and some with peanuts. These are prepared in a traditional Berber oven (pictured) on the premises. We met Lelah, the proprietor, who was very welcoming and explained the nature of her business. This is a women's co-op run and staffed totally by women, a rarity in this beautiful nation. One person in our group ordered the kefta burger which had all our mouths watering. Although we were not so amazed with the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou‌ itself (too touristy and not that much to do), the Tawesna Salon de thé was definitely the highlight of the trip! An amazing place to recharge your energies, plus it's a great way to support a local women organization. You can eat and drink amazing cookies, tea and coffee as much as you want!
