La Roche — Restaurant in Essaouira

The indoor decoration is very nice; with the wooden wall, ceiling, and the old arch. However, there are only 2 or 3 tables inside and 6 or 7 outside where you can't really appreciate the decoration. Furthermore, when you are seated outside, you have the cats, the people asking for money, and the musicians asking for money. The service was ok, meaning the young waiter was absolutely not professional but nice and polite. We ordered the fish of the day, sardines, and the seafood tagine. I asked for a half bottle of water as they have no alcohol like in most of the restaurant. Funny enough, the waiter left and came back 5-10 minutes later with half a bottle of water and a bag of sardines. The food was fresh and tasty, but we didn't find anything amazing or to remember. I find they were excellent in their presentation skills, meaning each plate was pleasant to look at. For the quality of the food, presentation and it is in the old Jewish area, the prices were really reasonable. So if you go there, I am sure you will not be disappointed but it will probably not...

The whole experience was unfortunately not like in the other comments. The staff was very nice and trying their best, the place is clean and comfortabel. But the dorade fish I ordered was smelling not fresh, so we asked the waiter to check it. He and his friend tried and said its normal. But many peaces of the fish were smelling too bad and I gave to the cats. My girlfriend had sardinias, but while eating already started feeling her stomach, which got worse in the hours after. Maybe a missing cooling of fish in the markets or transport. The place is nice but was also not super calm, because there were many local teenagers around having fun. Why the restaurants in this town struggle to have the seafood displayed on their menu is beyond me. Beginning on the evening and no crab. Swordfish was a little plain and served with tasteless french fries and plain salad. Only thing I had that was good in morocco are tajines, but at some point other things have to have taste with all the spices available!
