The Hungry Nomad Rooftop Essaouira — Restaurant in Essaouira

Very disappointed with our meals in this restaurant. I had the chicken stuffed with spinach and cheese which was served with rice. The rice was good but the chicken was really poor. It was overcooked and the meat was dry. The spinach stuffing was lukewarm and had very little flavour. My husband had fish which was served with vegetables. It was okay but the portion was very small for the price. A couple sitting at another table were joined by a white cat who sat on the table mats on the table adjoining theirs, watching everything that went into their mouths. The staff made no attempt to move it away or clean the table it sat on afterwards. There were several staff in the kitchen, chatting away among themselves with their backs to the restaurant, completely ignoring their customers. We waited for at least 15 minutes after finishing our meal and in the end had to go over to the kitchen to ask for our bill. We felt the price was high for what we got. We have paid a lot less for much better food and service in Essaouira. The Hungry Nomad is lacking, both in terms of quality of food and quality of service. Major room for...

This restaurant is very highly rated, and from the standpoint of the rooftop view and the lovely staff, their 4.9 rating is well-deserved. Once you climb the narrow, twisty stairs to the roof, the 360 view is gorgeous. You can see the sea above the rooftops of Essaouira in every direction. And the staff are so pleasant; the whole charming place has a kind and gentle vibe that’s irresistible. The day we were there for lunch, the food was good. Not the best in Essaouira, but plenty good enough for us to plan a return. You’re really coming for the view and the staff, though. And have a little snack before you go, because our salads and tagines took a very, very long time to arrive. All in all, though we left immediately after eating, our lunch took three hours. Disappointing - The best thing about this place is it’s probably got the world’s best view from the toilet across the city. The food was nice, but nothing special and very overpriced for Morocco. There was one waiter who was new and didn’t know anything. Not his fault, he was a nice person trying his best. Very bad management not to give him any training or help him when it’s busy. The girls in the kitchen were good, but again they should be helping the waiter and explaining starters go out first and then mains after. Although the views across the city are good, there are much better sea view rooftop restaurants near the beach. Very disappointed and shocked this is so highly ranked.
