The food here is good, but be prepared to deal with flies constantly landing on your meal and stray cats wandering around. While I understand that’s not entirely the restaurant’s fault, it’s something customers should be aware of.
What is the restaurant’s fault, however, is the terrible service. I ordered a dish that apparently takes longer to prepare, but no one bothered to inform me. We were a family of three, expecting to eat together, but instead, the others got their food, finished their meals in about 20 minutes, and I was left waiting another 40 minutes. No updates, no communication—nothing. Eventually, I had to go find the waiter myself at the reception, where he scrambled to check the receipt, argued with the chef in Arabic (which I don’t understand), and it became painfully clear they had forgotten my order.
When I asked to cancel, he flat-out refused, saying it would be ready in five minutes. Instead of taking responsibility, he arrogantly claimed that ‘everyone knows’ this dish takes at least 30 minutes to prepare. Well, foreigners don’t know that, and it’s the staff’s job to inform customers. At the very least, they should time the dishes properly so families can actually eat together—the entire point of dining out.
No apology, no accountability—just excuses and attitude. Absolutely unacceptable service.
Francais:
Read moreThe food is good but it's not outstanding. Before our dishes came, we were served a starter of olives with bread which was a big plus. Moroccan Harrira soup was very tasty so I highly recommend it. Chicken Pastilla was very tasty and not overly sweet - worth giving a try. Despite being marked as a starter its size is big enough to be a main meal. We really didn't enjoy couscous. We've seen pictures how it may be served but the one served at Chez Mmima was very dry and there were only two relatively small chunks of meat and whole plate of couscous with no sauce or spices. So it ended up being a plate of boiled vegetables and couscous. If we hadn't ordered this our experience would be 5/5.
Overall the cleanliness of the place is at a high standard and staff behaviour as well. The music was a bit too loud for my taste but I think it's designed to be like that. The restaurant is located in a quiet...
Read moreWith the excellent reviews, I had to give this restaurant a try. I have been trying to prioritize more Moroccan food while visiting, and this one might be the best yet.
The food is supposed to replicate cooking reminiscent of "Grandma's cooking" and you can definitely taste the love put into the dishes.
I had the Moroccan salad, the briouats, and the Beef and Olive Tagine and each dish was flavored perfectly, with bigger portions. The service was attentive and the owner made sure to stop by to make sure every dish was satisfying. The Moroccan pastries at the end were also delicious and a great way to end a fantastic meal.
As a bonus, the pricing here is very affordable! The restaurant itself is no frills, but I think the real jewel here is the food and service. No fancy decorations needed!
Definitely will be visiting Chez Mmima for a lunch or dinner...
