I had the pleasure of having lunch at Mama Africa in Marrakech recently, and honestly, it was such a great experience from start to finish. The first thing that caught my attention was the vibe : the decor, the music, there’s this amazing blend that takes you on a little journey from Africa straight to Jamaica. You know, it really feels fitting since Jamaica has those deep roots connected to Africa, so the whole atmosphere just works perfectly. Now, let me talk about the food because, wow, the ā€œPapa Oceanā€ dish is something special. The fried fish filet was crispy and tasty, seasoned with a beautiful mix of spices that made every bite memorable. It was flavorful without being overwhelming, perfectly balanced and cooked just right. What really made the visit stand out was the staff. Everyone was so warm, welcoming, and professional. They made us feel at home without being pushy. The kind of hospitality that just adds to the whole experience. Oh, and the drinks! I had this banana juice that was honestly top-tier quality, so natural and easy to drink that I ended up ordering a second glass without hesitation. And guess what ? I’m already looking forward to trying their avocado juice next time, especially since they said it can be made with almond milk, which sounds refreshing. To top it off, the prices are very reasonable, making it a great spot if you want tasty food and a chill vibe without...

Found this gem of a place while looking for alternative cuisines while in Marrakesh. Never tried Afro-Jamaican food before, so this stood out for me. The location is a bit out of the way, especially away from the medina, but it was definitely worth the walk.

Very laid-back atmosphere with strong Afro-Jamaican interiors and music. The place is strongly Rastafarian-influenced which was a novel experience for me. Love the place so much that I came here for lunch twice for lunch. Got Mama Bouef (Mama Beef: sauteed beef in soy sauce with red, yellow and green peppers, on a bed of long-grain rice) and Papa Ocean (deep fried fish fillet and calamari with red, yellow and green peppers, on a bed of long-grain rice), with smoothies. Also got their Happy Salad (tip: if you are eating alone, do not get the salad and main dish... the portions are a bit too much even for someone with a big appetite like myself).

AMAZING food with huge portions. Will definitely and dearly miss this place!

This came recommended and so we popped in I was not impressed with the smoking inside as not used to this anymore The owner I think is a chain smoker himself and I almost said to him to give it up as he's just too handsome to smoke Lols Anyway the food for me was not great I think I had the mystic pearl and hubby had the beef It might have been the oyster sauce or something that was overbearing or they overshot with it It was well presented though My hubby seemed to enjoy his food and felt sorry for me I stole some of his Double lols

Great music in the background but the smoking ruined the ambience and atmosphere a bit for me Hubby didn't seem to mind

Service was ok but owner and I think the chef didn't look happy so we didn't feel completely welcome I didn't think it was bad customer service They were probably just having a bad day or something

Some positives Large portions - if you like your food Very reasonably priced - including the drinks Great location and...

Great food and nice service in a bohemian and very laid back setting. The food was fresh and very tasty, and the service staff is kind, accommodating, and speak good English which is very appreciated. This is a great spot for lunch.
