GM Café Gourmet — Restaurant in Marrakesh Prefecture

On our first day at the hotel next door, two hungry souls wandered in, glad to find a good restaurant within seconds of our ground search. We were drawn in by the artful terrace decor and the promise of the menu, and were greeted warmly and promptly by several staff members.

A bit perplexed by the Italian/pan-Asian cuisine offerings, we nonetheless settled on the latter: Gai Satee (grilled chicken in peanut sauce) to start, and shrimp Pad Thai and Wok Vegetarian for our mains. The starter was the immediate favorite, while the Pad Thai was average (but plenty tasty and beautifully presented) and the Wok perhaps lacking some heat and more complex flavor — but still good enough to finish both of our dishes entirely.

Whereas the food we had wasn’t particularly noteworthy, the pleasant atmosphere and dynamite service are what compel me to award the full 5 stars. I want to shout out especially to our server Younnes, who took excellent care of us and whose charm and personal attention must be celebrated. Given its proximity and overall likability, we will most certainly return at least once before leaving Gueliz....

We came here for breakfast in the morning, the service and food were excellent, so we made a reservation for dinner as well. Dinner was a disaster... I give three stars only because of the very good food, but the service, completely bad. At first , we waited hopelessly for 20 minutes for someone to serve us, no one came, so we had to ask the service if we could finally order. When we finally ordered, the waiter did not write down our order, of course he messed up the order. When we tried to complain about the items, they took it away without any problems and brought something we didn't order again, the waiter just nodded at us and showed a thumbs up as if it was attention from them for messing up the order. Of course it wasn't and they charged us for the item. They even tried to convince us that we ordered it. This is how they charged us for 2 items that we did not even order. Towards the end, they even brought us a bad bill, and we noticed that it also happened to couple of tables around us. The food is great, but please improve...

I recently enjoyed a lovely meal at your restaurant; the food was excellent, and the ambiance was delightful. However, the experience was marred by a disappointing incident when it came time to pay the bill.

Our invoice totaled 220 DHS, and we handed over 300 DHS. To our surprise, the server returned with only 30 DHS. When I approached him to clarify that we had given 300 DHS, he insisted that we had only given 250 DHS. Despite my explanation, he stubbornly maintained his stance.

I typically leave a tip for good service, but feeling ripped off like this is very disheartening. We ended up leaving the remaining money as it was, feeling quite unsettled and disappointed. It's truly a shame that such an incident could tarnish what would have otherwise been a perfect dining experience.
