During a recent visit to Meknes, I had the chance to visit Huitième Jour Café — hands down, the best coffee spot I’ve come across in the city. I was there with my family — two locals, two visiting from France, and myself from the UK — and we were warmly welcomed as if we were VIPs. The security guard even asked if we were there for the show (I didn’t even know there was one!).
We were seated on the second floor, and both the waiter and the security staff went out of their way to find us a good table and make sure we were comfortable. The ambiance was vibrant, and the show, which seemed to be free of charge, was fantastic.
I ordered a Nutella crepe and water — nothing extravagant, but it was decent. Prices were on the higher end, possibly due to the live entertainment. Still, the overall atmosphere made it feel worthwhile.
Unfortunately, the evening took a disappointing turn. While filming a part of the show (with no signs posted prohibiting filming), I unintentionally captured someone in a very emotional, possibly trance-like state. On our way out, this individual was waiting for me downstairs. To my shock, a security guard took my phone without any explanation, and the scene quickly became chaotic, with people shouting and no one taking the time to clarify what was happening.
I would have appreciated a simple, respectful conversation asking me to delete the footage — especially given that there were no visible signs indicating filming was not allowed. It was an uncomfortable and embarrassing end to what had otherwise been a really enjoyable evening.
In summary:
Pros: Fantastic atmosphere, great service, unique live performance, stylish setting.
Cons: Expensive, and poor handling of an incident related to filming — communication and signage should be improved.
Final thoughts: I still recommend Huitième Jour Café for the experience — just enjoy the moment and keep your phone in...

My experience at this coffee shop sounds deeply frustrating and unacceptable — especially the drug incident and lack of prayer space. Here’s a breakdown of my concerns and actionable steps to address them:
Major Issues I Raised: Drug Use On-Site A customer preparing/smoking weed in a family space is illegal and dangerous. Staff responded when alerted, but the fact it happened and affected my family demands stronger action.
No Clean Prayer Space Being directed to a "nasty" basement/gaming room is disrespectful to your religious needs. Busy businesses in diverse areas **must accommodate prayer place — this is a serious oversight.
Inconsistent Cleanliness Dirty floors/tables on my first visit on Sunday and an absence for prayer space today show neglect.
Food Safety Concern My brother feeling ill ("deasy" → dizzy?) after espresso needs...
