Discrimination, Lies, Ignorance, and a Poor Attitude. This is a summary of Humphrey's in a few words.

I wanted to try Humphrey's Restaurant in advance of family visiting, but I won't be bringing my guests there after discovering how awful this business is.

My experience started with a discount voucher (a so-called "Dinercheque") that I wanted to use for a discount on a three course meal. Humphrey's were not able to accept my "Dinercheque" due to a discriminatory policy within the small print of the voucher. A fair compromise was not offered.

Following this, I emailed Humphrey's regarding the discriminatory policy of the voucher. Humphrey acknowledged the discriminatory policy and promised to keep my complaint in mind with regards to the policies of future offers. Furthermore, Humphrey's advised me of upcoming offer that would not include the discriminatory policy, so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait to see the new offer. Unfortunately, the new offer also included the same discriminatory policy as the previous one.

I emailed Humphrey's again to request an explanation, but my email was ignored. After waiting 48 hours, I sent a second email.

In the eventual reply, Humphrey's explained that the discount offer had been "changed at the last moment". They did not apologise for giving me wrong information, nor for the discriminatory policy of their Restaurants, nor for ignoring the first email I sent to them.

I sent further emails in the hope that Humphrey's would make an effort to resolve these problems, but unfortunately they just repeat the same lies and do not solve the problems. They ignored my last email entirely (sent over one week ago).

I don't even care about the food if the absolute basics of customer service aren't in place (like treating people equally), and Humphrey's has a lot to learn in this regard, as it is easily one the worst I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

Please don't support discrimination or tolerate awful customer service; Humphrey's is...

Definitely a great restaurant I would recommend visiting when in Amersfoort.

The food was delicious, with great use of ingredients while avoiding any one particular flavour to overshadow the others. The artichoke was very nice with the sauce and risotto ball, the steak was cooked to perfection, and the Belgian waffle was exactly the sweet desert to finish off with.

The restaurant itself had a nice homey ambiance, with plenty of tables, but not too many meaning it doesn't feel crowded. The location is also ideal if you combine it with an evening of theatre; a parking garage is across the building adding to the convenience.

As for the staff, they were very friendly, but in my honest opinion -and this is where the loss of one star comes in- I feel that they could do with slightly more supervision. The service is still great, but the wait between certain key moments like clearing the table, or checking the next order was a bit long, because staff were usually congregating near the kitchen. If the staff would be in the dining area more, or scann the dining area more, this could be avoided I reckon.

All in all I would most certainly recommend this restaurant, especially because the food was very much...

Via de bankgiroloterij een dinerbon gewonnen van Humphrey's. Nooit van gehoord. Blijkt een keten door heel Nederland te zijn en tijdens ons verblijf op de Veluwe in de vakantie een tafeltje geboekt bij Humhrey in Amersfoort. Het parkeren van de auto bleek een uitdaging, maar dat komt waarschijnlijk door onze plaatselijke onbekendheid. Er waren wel parkeerterreinen in de buurt, alleen hoe kom je daar? Eenmaal binnen verwelkomd door een vriendelijke gastvrouw en we mochten een tafeltje voor 2 uitkiezen op de begane grond. Een stekkie genomen waar we de zaak goed konden overzien. Fanstastische sfeervolle inrichting. Alleen dat al was leuk. Toen kwam het personeel. Allervriendelijkst, alert en attent en dat ging de hele avond door. De menukaart laat niets te wensen over. Ruime keuze of je nu vlees, vis of vegetarisch wil.Voor elk wat wils en voor een zéér schappelijke prijs. De bereiding was ook prima. Om een voorbeeld te geven, we hadden een mixed grillspies met o.a. biefstuk. Het bedienend personeel vraagt raw, medium of rear en de keuken maakt dat dan ook zo. Bijzonder als de andere spiesvleesgerechten kip en varkenshaas zijn. Toppie en het toetje was ook al niet te versmaden. Oja, enne, het voorgerecht van escargots was ook bijzonder. De wijn en het bier smaakten prima en terwijl wij van en met onze koffie na genoten werd de tafel naast ons, nadat de gasten vertrokken waren, tot driemaal toe schoongemaakt voordat er opnieuw werd gedekt. Of dat nu helemaal praktisch is weet ik niet. Het geeft wel aan dat er goed op de hygiëne wordt gelet, wat mij een fijn gevoel over de keuken brigade geeft. Kortom, ik kan niet voor alle Humpry's spreken maar die in Amersfoort...
