Cafe de Doelen in Amsterdam is a delightful escape that seamlessly blends traditional charm with contemporary elegance. Nestled conveniently in the bustling heart of the city, this café is a stone's throw from the iconic Amstel River, making it an ideal spot for both locals and tourists seeking a genuine Amsterdam experience. As you step inside, the café exudes a warm, welcoming atmosphere, characterized by its classic Dutch interiors. The wooden furnishings, coupled with the subtle lighting, create a cozy ambiance, perfect for a relaxed meal or a casual drink. The walls adorned with vintage photographs and artworks add a touch of nostalgia, transporting you to a bygone era. What truly sets Cafe de Doelen apart is its exceptional service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, willing to go the extra mile to make your visit memorable. Whether you're looking for recommendations on the menu or curious about local attractions, they are more than happy to assist. The café also boasts a well-curated selection of wines and local beers, making it a great spot for an evening unwind. We loved how original and authentic this beautiful cafe is. Built in 1895, the building retains many original features on the interior including a stripped back side wall. The best part was the ambience of the owner and staff and guests. A very chilled vibe made for a really enjoyable evening. So much that we came back the next night. What was great was the authentic side of life inside this wonderful cafe. My wife and I have 2 dogs, so being away from home we missed them. So we were really happy to meet so many dog owners with their dogs casually walking around inside seeking attention from other customers. Pure bliss ! The staff were really friendly and attentive and the Amstel was very keenly priced in 50cl & 25cl glasses.

Loved the atmosphere, but the service was terrible. The women working there seemed bothered to wait on us. Granted, it was 2:30 in the afternoon and we were ordering food, but if the restaurant offers food service at that time, the workers should be at least willing to serve us. After our drinks were served, we had to ask for everything we needed, and each time, the woman behind the bar didn't even acknowledge our request--although she did get us what we asked for, she didn't communicate with us, even to say "OK." A different woman brought us our food. Our glasses were empty but she didn't ask if we wanted something else to drink or if we needed anything else. It may be that she didn't speak English, but seeing empty glasses, she might have at least told the bartender to check on us. She seemed to race away from the table. It was all very odd. We couldn't get out of there...

very poor experience on evening of March 5th. extremely rude and poor service—came in a group of 4: three of us ordered drinks, one ordered a slice of pie. after ordering already and receiving half of our order, we were forced to order another drink. Why? Bluntly stated by the waitress: “house rules.”

The fourth person was content with their pie, so to smooth things over, I ordered a second beer to reach our quota. Apparently, this wasn’t good enough, and it was slammed down in front of me without a word.

Also, there are illegal card charges, as well as tolerated regulars who have harassed female companions in the past. Used to come here occasionally, but the culmination of these factors now means I will avoid at all costs for any other local bruin bar. Even the convenient location doesn’t score it points—there’s a bruin bar right next to Cafe...
