Arrived here at 20:40 on a Saturday evening as we had tickets for a movie that started at 21:45. We waited a few minutes at the front, up to 4 minutes, and actually picked up menus ourselves to walk towards a table because servers were looking at us a bit cluelessly from across the restaurant but not coming over. We were then met with a server who told us that the kitchen closes at 9, but we could order bar snacks such as bitterballen or croquettes. This was fine, so we sat down and decided to waste no time as we knew we wanted one of each snack plus 2 fries (also on the snack menu).
A waiter came to take our order, didnt say hi or welcome or anything, he actually walked past us quickly but we asked for his attention as we felt we didn't want to waste time. He sighed when we asked for what we wanted, and said 'I can't, the kitchen is closed' we said I know it closes soon but we were told we could order bar snacks. He then got annoyed and said 'but I will get in trouble', we weren't arguing, we just told him what his colleague had told us. I understand its annoying if people want full meals at 5 minutes to closing but this is what we were told.
He then said 'fine you can pick something from the snacks' so we made our order and he said 'come on this is too much, please pick two items or something I am going to get in trouble my name is attached'..we looked at him very confused because why would we order 2 items when there were 3 of us, and also its all just going in a deep fat fryer anyway. We said 'ok so what can we have?!' and he just pointed at two random things and said 'just pick this and this'. It still wasn't 9pm by this point. I feel like the work environment here may not be good if the colleagues are so worried about upsetting the kitchen, the environment felt quite tense and unpleasant.
We ended up not ordering anything and we left. When we asked where else we could go for food he told us to get the ferry back to centraal, which was a weird response as we went right next door to The Butcher and had a great meal...
Read moreWe love The Eye in general (the cinema, the museum, the café), even though we don’t normally eat there, because of a very reduced menu. But the other night we finally did have dinner there (normally we get lunch or drinks) and it was VERY disappointing. The menu offered octopus tostadas, with chorizo, potatoes and salsa macha, which we ordered; what we got was a couple of inflated fried tortillas (a tostada should be flat, these weren’t) with a couple of pieces of octopus and the rest of the ingredients, and NO SALSA MACHA. When we asked to get our salsa, the server had no idea what we were referring to until we pointed to what the menu said. He said he’d inquire in the kitchen and came back with an improvised container (way too big for what it had inside) of some “salsa” that was clearly not macha. Just so you know, a salsa macha is made with roasted chili peppers and other spices, mixed with oil. What we got was a regular, generic kinda green salsa. I can understand that most local clients wouldn’t know the difference, but if you have a restaurant (at whatever level) and you offer something on the menu, the LEAST you can do is serve what you offer. Period. That really gets me, I mean, come on! If you can’t serve it, don’t offer it. The problem with this place is that they already have a captive audience and they are very unlikely to change anything, but still….I find it very disrespectful. Oh! And the pasta was pretty mediocre too. So sad to say these things since we really love The Eye, the place, the atmosphere, the exhibits, the restaurant, the view, etc. we just won’t be eating...
Read moreWe lije to visit EYE often to see great projections and get a dinner with great view of IJ. However, today we come like usualy around 16:30 and first waited more than 10 min to get seated on one small round table( party of 4) in middle with 3 chairs, after asking can we get extra chair we got awnsered" Yes you can search for free one" from guy wearing t-shirt, when we ordered drinks and coffee we didn't get sugar. Asking waiter for sugar didn't change anything but we again got awnser to go and find it by my self...for coffee costing 4€ you can't even get sugar?? For the whole out time in restauranst all exept 3 tabels next to windows are empty and we still can't get that table. At end we give up from dinner and ordered desserts and when they arrive, plates are placed next to already dried coffee cups without cutlery...this time when we asked we actually get cutlery but without napkins or anything other. Our request to get suger and napkins are ignored by multiple staff memebers. At end our empty plates stayed on table for more than hour and they didn't been picked or table was not cleaned single time during our 2.5h long visit. Food is good but service and quality if service looks more like eethuis than nice restaurant. Recommend to avoid at all costs, not worth of money and questions to staff. At the time of our leaving in restaurant was still 14 empty tabels for dinner and we didn't been...
