Tolhuistuin — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Unfortunately we didn’t get to experience the food because we left after experiencing BLATANT racism by both customers and staff. In this day and time there should be no place for any human being to be mistreated because of the color of their skin.

We are 2 African American women who stopped in after getting off the ferry. While standing at the hostess stand waiting to be seated as instructed by the signage, a group of whites walked in, walked right past us. The hostess looked over us and started seated the group of white people even after I let her know we had been standing there. We were told by her in a dismissive manner to sit anywhere and received crazy stares from seated guests. We sat right in front of the waitress. She walked past us and went across the room to take the order of the people who had walked in front of us. She never acknowledged us. We got up and walked out. We just noticed other similar reviews. Had we seen the reviews before hand we never would’ve stepped foot in such a deplorable place!

We walked further down to The Butcher where we were cheerfully greeted and seated! Now to enjoy this delicious...

The location is great. And also for socializing. The food is overpriced. It's small portions so you need to order more than one item of main course per person. And you need to order side dishes separately (breads). Service is ok. The waiting for the second order was much longer, therefore, make sure you ask again if your food is not arrived after 15 minutes. Big chance that the order didn't get processed. The toilet is not clean and they are all gender neutral toilets. The best to come on foot (free ferry) from Amsterdam CS. Otherwise the parking will cost you a lot. As the view from there is great , I would choose to sit outside on the ground floor where you can just order...

Ok good views and it's very lively, there's a nice buzz around the place and the staff were very good. Unfortunately the food let it down for me. The concept of the menu is good small portions but a large selection which I like however I started with bread, oil and dakkah, I had to ask what dakkah was. The bread was fresh but the combination was confusing and didn't work for me. Next I had chicken wrap it was good but nothing more. I then had sticky toffee pudding which was nothing like normal sticky toffee pudding at all, a dry cold sponge with a scoop of lemon sorbet sprinkled in coconut, crazy and...
