On a rainy Sunday evening, curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to venture into Golden Thali - a spot I had passed by for years without trying. The establishment was quiet, save for a table by the window where a couple of locals were engrossed in their meal. The warm greeting from a lady - who turned out to be co-owner - was so welcoming that it instantly made me decide to order some takeout.
As I leisurely perused the menu, my eyes settled on the Vegetarian Biryani and the Vegan Gobi Masala (cauliflower curry). Upon payment, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a 10% discount for takeout, amounting to a total cost of around 27 euros. While waiting for the order on the terrace, the co-owner, who also turned out to be a Nepalese, graciously engaged me in a conversation about his homeland. He proudly showed me a painting of his birthplace and a framed review from Het Parool, a popular Dutch newspaper. He insisted on offering me a beverage and presented me with his speciality, a Mango Lassi, complete with an intriguing backstory of its creation.
Upon reaching home, the unboxing of the food was a delight in itself. The packaging was sturdy and effectively insulated, keeping the food warm during my ten-minute walk. Each package was neatly labelled, adding to the overall presentation.
Now, the real test - the food was absolutely delicious. The Biryani was mildly spicy, not too greasy and loaded with fresh vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli and onions. The cauliflower curry was milder, with a smooth, inspiring taste. The quality of ingredients was impeccable, from the cauliflower to the potatoes. Instead of rice, we opted for naan bread, a pleasantly neutral accompaniment that perfectly complemented the curry.
The whole experience with Golden Thali was truly memorable. The owners' evident pride in their culinary offerings and their commitment to customer service were very endearing. This pride was manifest in the quality, presentation and taste of their dishes. We love to eat clean food and for us this falls into that category.
I will surely revisit Golden Thali. The warm reception, coupled with the delightful food, has earned this restaurant a spot in my list of favourites. Whether you are a solitary food lover seeking a healthy meal or a family intending to enjoy a lavish feast, Golden Thali has something for everyone. It's a culinary experience worth exploring in this peaceful area...
Read moreMy first time visiting an Indian-Nepalese restaurant could not be more perfect, thanks to the wonderful food, venue, and staff of Golden Thali located in Amsterdam Olympiaplein. Let me start with the food. They have an extensive menu with diverse dishes that suit different diets. The name Golden Thali is a referral to the gold colored plate the food is served on, which is the best practice of hospitality to show the respect and welcom for guests in the Nepalese culture. This is exactly the kind of treatment you can expect when, in this restaurant, the owners and the staff are incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. You are served food like you are royalty, and the taste of the dishes is also in alignment. Everything is authentic, high quality in ingredients, and incredibly delicious. I am especially in love with Butter Chicken and the dumplings, though I enjoyed every bit of my meal. The owner, Lakshmi, and her husband are the entrepreneurs that bring you this amazing menu and atmosphere filled with authentic artifacts from India and Nepal that give you a unified meal experience similar to traveling. Golden Thali has been open since 2020 and is available for delivery through all meal platforms. I am incredibly satisfied with the delicious and authentic food, the etnic atmosphere, and the professionalism of the staff. I will be back to feel like royalty and eat...
Read moreUpdate: 30/01/2024 The restaurant is very clean, the taste is excellent, the service is very good, but the prices of the dishes have increased and the size of the dishes has decreased considerably.
Heerlijk!!!! Zes sterren:) Very tasty food. Professional and courteous waitress. I do not know what the difference is between Nepali and Indian food but I know I really enjoyed the two very large dishes that were served to us. We will definitely return to this restaurant.
My sixth time at this excellent restaurant. Let's start with the most important thing is the toilets, they are as clean as at home. The food is so delicious and the service is courteous and professional. I highly recommend.
This is our 20's time at this restaurant. In my opinion this is the most delicious Neapolitan Indian restaurant in Amsterdam because the food is so fresh, rich in flavors and delicious. The staff is so kind and professional. I highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be back. thank you so...
