Proper Indofood — Restaurant in Amsterdam

On a recent weeklong trip across the Netherlands and Belgium, this may have been our absolute favorite meal. We were told we had to try Indonesian food in Amsterdam, and Proper Indofood blew us away!! We got takeout chicken, rice, and a variety of vegetables. We brought the food back to our hotel to eat in the dining area. After about 10 minutes, the three hotel receptionists came over to ask us where our food was from. As an Indonesian who has been disappointed time and time again by the westernized Indonesian food in this country, Proper Indofood did not disappoint. It wasn't expensive, and the food I got (red fried rice + eggplant balado + sweet chicken) was up to my standards. Unfortunately, the food my girlfriend got (dried tempeh + spicy green beans) were rather flavorless. The tempeh tasted like they used stroop (syrup) instead of sweet soy sauce (kecap manis). I can see why this place has such high reviews. The food is amazing and tastes just like I imagine home cooked food from Indonesia would taste. It’s very fairly priced. It’s so flavorful and the options are solid. The servers (Harris and Cliff) are super friendly and happy to answer your questions on what each of the foods are, their flavor profile, and how spicy it is. Harris has a warm and welcoming smile on his face. Note that this is quick service but there are benches outside just down the block for you to eat your food. Ask for it warmed if you plan to eat...
