I got their cheesecake, it was good enough but definitely not worth the long wait. We did ask for the croquettes but they were out and only had the frozen ones left so we did pass on that, maybe those are more worth the wait. However, I can’t imagine anything being worth the putrid attitude the women inside gave us. Two of them looked dead at me as I asked a question and wouldn’t answer me. Their reason was that there was another lady that “was helping us” (from the other side of the bakery) and she reiterated this to us 4 times over as if we couldn’t understand english. There were only two parties in the store at a time and 3-4 people behind the counter. At first, I did think maybe she just doesn’t like tourists but she was just as rude and dismissive to the Dutch man after me. We did grab some pastries at a corner bakery down the street and they were honestly better and came with decent treatment from the establishment. Most people only write reviews for really good or really bad things, and this visit was simply unnerving since I did nothing to warrant...
Read morePatisserie-“a shop where pastries and cakes are sold. "the patisserie also specializes in cheesecakes and tortes"”. This shop is the classic definition of patisserie. They also have a large variety of cookies. I’ve read all the other comments and decided to add my opinion. you DONT have to stand and wait at least an hour in line like touristy social media spots. The price is fair for Amsterdam, remember this is a specialty shop and not AH. If you’re not sure what to order, ask for a recommendation. I assure you that they will guide you on the best decision for the day. The staff was very helpful and kind. This is the Netherlands and if you haven’t really experienced service anywhere else in the city, you’d be mistaken to think that their service is not exceptional. Quality and taste. I enjoyed the champagne cake.
So if your in the vicinity stop by and try, at least you won’t be waiting and hour in the rain with the instagram crowd for a less...
Read moreOk. I am sure that there is not a thing sold in the store that doesn’t taste good. The place is known for their lemon merengue cake. Well, I heard a bit of a buzz about how this cake changed and so ventured out to test it (you’re welcome). The cake is still good, it’s delicious and tasty. However the merengue part of the cake has been reduced to a very thin layer of merengue, just enough to cover the lemon part and that’s it. The cake costs 16,95 euro and about 6 people can have a good piece to enjoy. Or you can share with 8, but that’ll be small pieces. If you like a proper piece, it’ll feed 4. The staff in the shop could be nicer, the younger girls tend to be happier, they seem to have more fun doing what they do. They are not as friendly as they are at Cornelissen (van Baerlestraat) My Review on them will follow. I’ll let the pictures to the rest of the talking. And bring your own bag, the tiny plastic bag will set you back ,25ct. Added a picture of the...
