We tried this place last night and really enjoyed it. We sat at one of the kitchen tables so we got to watch all of the action, which was pretty cool. The space is on the third floor of a building overlooking the Olympic Stadium, which was all decked out in orange for the EK. We tried six courses off the a la carte menu (four savory and two sweet) as well as one of the bites. The food was consistently good and perfectly balanced. The amuse was a charred carrot with a five spice glaze and a small glass of kombucha, which was a nice way to start. We then enjoyed the bite of lamb tartare, which was served on a crispy kale leaf. The next course was a red gurnard with artichokes and beans in a tomato vinaigrette. This dish had a very subtle smokiness that was rounded out by the vinaigrette; this was my wife's favorite item. Next was fennel on a bed of apple puree and fermented buerre blanc which was really nicely balanced between the fresh and rich notes going on. Following this we got cod with a trout roe sauce, which also incorporated some smoked roe. Between this course and the main we received a second surprise of broccoli dashi which was really interesting. The main was a grilled quail stuffed with a morel in a purslane sauce, Chinese broccoli stuffed with fermented vegetables, and bimi and fingerling potatoes in a buerre monté sauce. Each element of the dish worked perfectly, and this was my favorite course. For dessert we got the Pavlova and the corn crème caramel. The crème caramel was like a flan, and was topped with a buerre blanc ice cream. The Pavlova was really interesting, almost not sweet at all but very earthy with a buckwheat cookie, rhubarb, and horseradish ice cream. I've never had anything like it as a dessert but it was tasty. The service was friendly and attentive, even with a huge group of 30 dudes coming in about halfway through service (it was actually cool to watch them prep for such a huge group). All in all I'm glad we finally got around to coming in, I would...
Read moreVery mixed feelings. Our start was not vwey good. First, I got a receipt for our coat, which is a bit odd imho. We were a party of four, arriving in pairs. Since we were first to arrive, we were seated and asked what we wanted to drink. No pastis, no Dubonnet, no St Raphael, no Pineau, no White Port. Lot's of different GT's, mu favourite aperitifs are undoubtedly out of fashion, so I settled for tonic water. English all around, no apologies. I do not mind terribly, it's just that I would still like to be able to feel as I'm in the Netherlands. Well, it is Amsterdam, so I guess that's the new normal now. The food was good, not always well balanced. Nice touches of oil, carribean flavours, special thanks to Tanja from Mexico that made oud desserts, they were amazing but for one of the four choices. Would I recommend? It is quite new. There is room for improvement, they will certainly be changing things along the way. We had too many different staff at our table, for no apparent reason. They have to walk a lot :-). Food is good, so is the decor. It should become better, the public seems to like it since it was almost filled at a tuesday night. It might be a while before we...
Read moreThe hostess (?) with short blond hair was extremely unwelcoming and kept telling our party the restaurant is booked even though there were several open tables throughout the 3 hours we were there. She refused friends ( who we had seats for and we had ordered for ) to enter as they were closing in the next 1 h30 time!?
They served French fries and cappuccinos in the same BOWL!!! (Literally coffee received in a bowl?) And this after the biggest event ( Amsterdam marathon), that the restaurant serves in the year!!
You had tired marathon runners outside wanting to sit down and eat and drink something - with seats inside at friends’ table and they refused them… ( even for a drink) … clearly this place is not there for customer service , food or drink.
The service is atrocious in general. This restaurant does not need patrons . They show this in the actions and demeanor of the maitre d’ / hostess’ actions ( crop blond older woman) . The rest of the help staff was more helpful and friendly.
Definitely also not Michelin star food🙄 we could get the same food at the stalls...
