Where to start. We went for New Year’s Eve and paid sixty euros each for the after party. We had to pay three euros each to hang our coats up (we weren’t allowed to share a hanger) and then proceeded upstairs to get a drink. What a farce! We paid eighty euros for drinks tokens and then weren’t able to buy a drink until 11.30pm when we went to find out where would serve us. We were then told to go downstairs by which time there was a huge queue and weren’t able to use our tokens to buy a bottle of wine. So, in addition we then had to pay another sixty seven euros for a bottle of red wine and rose which was a much better option than having to queue repeatedly and wait another hour.
We were then told that we had to stay downstairs when it was advertised that we could watch the fireworks from one of three decks. There were two. The top deck hadn’t been cleared from the previous dinner party so we managed to sit at a table (upstairs where some other people had managed to sneakily sit down) these tables were full of pots…better than the cramped sardine space with a dj and small dance floor (oh and the upstairs seats were with leaking air vents. A great taste of the sea life!)
We spoke to a couple who had been at the dinner party and they told us that they had their starter at 6pm followed by their main at 9pm and were ready to get off. Nobody had told them that the ship would be moving continuously until 3am. They had to ask this whilst talking to us. Because of the amount of time, naturally people need the toilet. This costs an additional two euros which marvellously covers you for the entire night!
All in all a complete sham and money making scheme. It was only due to the lovely ladies serving and their kind ways to their customers that the ship was bearable as well as some beautiful characters attending. Definitely needs some planning and better prep for next year! Do not waste your money and grab a bottle or two of bubbly and some tasty...
Read moreThe NY party we attended didn't have too many elements of the Great Gatsby theme. The waiters dressed accordingly, but there was no specific music, no '20s-style decorations on the tables, and the atmosphere was more like a club than a dinner. The tables were placed too close to each other, and those in the middle of the boat had no view of Amsterdam's canals.
As for the food, except for the first dish which was promising, the rest of the meal was terrible. The main course, entrecote, was served cold, and the seasonal vegetables consisted of only one type of vegetable. The dessert, a chocolate fondant, was the worst part of the meal. The cake was smashed in 80% of the cases at our table, and the ice cream was melted. See pictures.
The bar had an extensive list of expensive wines, cocktails, and champagne, but they didn't have 80% of the items listed on the menu. For instance, the only Pinot Grigio they had was not available after 20 minutes. They had plenty of Moet, but it came at a steep price starting from 100 euros a bottle.
The service was not up to the standard either. The waiters were not trained properly, and the dishes were served cold and at different times. We had to wait between 15 and 30 minutes to get all the plates at the same table. Cleaning the tables was done with little care and attention to detail. Waiting for more than 20 mins to bring the orders.
Continuing the bad things, they charged 2 euros per use of the toilet when we were already paying 150 euros per person for a full-service experience. Although they were recommended to us, we won't be coming back to this cruise, hotel, or restaurant again.
So, we left at 11 PM. Anywhere else would had been...
Read moreWe were a group of 6 that thought will have decent fun for the NYE. I came with high expectations matching the price we paid and, oh boy, was I disappointed. We booked dinner and the after party but we, as proven after, wisely decided to abandon ship after the failed dinner experience.
The bad: Clueless waitresses (I strongly believe they had no experience in waitressing) long waiting time for the simplest of requests, taking ~30 minutes on average to get water, drinks … food was delayed, cold and brought at random the entrecôte was served cold (fat is really bad addition in this scenario), small portion with little on the side dessert was scrambled in the plate by the time it reached the table (again, random factor, some of us got it 10 minutes before the rest at the same table) had to pay for the toilet and they were in a state not worth describing
