Salsa Shop — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Mexican food is pretty simple to cook well, yet somehow it always tastes off here. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what's wrong, because how can you mess up combining salt, chilli, lime, pulled meat, coriander, avocado, tortillas etc? But if I was to sum it up in one word it would be "bland".

I remember I had the beef on my burrito, but all it tasted off was braised beef with no salt or spices, like it had cooked in saltless water only. They also don't heat the Burritos up under the grill before wrapping them, so you end up with an icy cold burrito and personally I like them hot.

A good way of comparing it is to think about what would happen if this opened in Mexico. The answer is that it would go out of business quickly because there would be one million better places to get tacos for a quarter of the price. This place only survives because there's not really much competition here for Mexican food. I just feel sorry for North American tourists that get fooled onto...

Absolutely everything wrong there. I enter with my partner, we stand there for minutes. Both workers standing there,. They don't even have the audacity to welcome us. We had to ask 3 times in order to get their attention. Their communication was non existing. I think they didn't even speak English.

The grill was absolutely disgusting and dirty. The proportions of the burrito Ingredients were absolutely inaccurate. When asking about this they just stared at me stupid, as if I was talking russian.

The ingredients in the tin boxes didn't look fresh at all and half way I just cancelled my order because I at first was unable to cope with all the red flags.

As a Mexican, I was curious to see how Mexican food is interpreted overseas. So after a long trip, it was funny that my first meal in Europe was something Mexican. BARBACOA IS LIFE! And salsas are so delicious. Of course it was weird to have beans, rice, sour cream and other things piled with my bowl, but it still worked. But barbacoa by itself and salsas ARE EVERYTHING.
