Throughout our entire four night stay, we were met with superior hospitality and service at every aspect of the hotel we explored. The hotel itself is modern, hip, with a very inviting lounge. Given the location and amenities, I would absolutely return to the Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam.
Upon our evening arrival and check-in we were warmly welcomed by the all smiles front desk staff. Given the celebratory purpose of our visit we were gifted vouchers for 15% off, and two complementary drinks at the Kimpton De Witt California inspired restaurant, Celia. Staff made friendly small talk, expounding on the city’s recommended sites, and throughly explained the various hotel amenities offered.
Given the nature of our stay we booked a Junior suite. No regrets there! Our 5th floor Jr. suite included a few steps down to access the room off the main hallway. As an American I find anywhere outside the U.S. (excluding NYC) the rooms are quaint and small, but the Kimpton De Witt is packed with charm and style. Upon entry we were greeted by a chilled bottle of champagne, a box of chocolates, and a handwritten welcome note (pictured). The room included complimentary Nespresso machine, tea, (2) bottles of water by Marie-Stella-Maris, an open fridge for future leftovers and beverages of your choice, a sleek Tube Audio Bluetooth speaker, TV, the softest robes by Frette, a yoga mat, in-shower body/skin care by ga mats, Marie-Stella-Maris, and a very cozy bed. The junior suite offers ample space for two plus a sofa bed. Aside from the current worldwide trendy bathroom design which includes a missing shower door/curtain, and the arms length distance between the toilet and the toilet paper- there’s no room for complaints. The morning views from our room of the tops of buildings, pipping chimneys, and the hotel below was a constant reminder that we were home in Amsterdam.
While there is no free continental breakfast, we found the addition of breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Celia a convenient way to start the day; even if by day four the options appeared all too familiar. Each cup of coffee comes hot and fresh, and aside from the buffet eggs the chef is on hand for special requests like omelets or poached eggs. Before dining at Celia we enjoyed our first beer in Amsterdam at the bar where we picked the brains of the bartenders who were willing to give their recommendations on Amsterdam’s nightlife.
Even with a California inspired menu which meant a “home cooked meal” to us, we found the dinner menu and its courses to be delicious and different - in a good way! (Good luck trying to find a baked potato or white rice in Amsterdam, Americans.)
Unless you’re visiting in the summer, you will most likely want to take advantage of the complimentary umbrellas to borrow, conveniently located by the front entrance. As a city heavily populated with cyclists you would be remised if you didn’t take advantage of their complimentary bicycle rental.
Come evening time, imbibe at the cafe turned complimentary bar in the lounge area between Super Lyan and Celia for “social hour” btw. 4-5pm. Enjoy your choice of European wines (red/white) or Heineken along with small bites, while supplies last!
Before calling it a night, or if you’re just getting the night started consider the hotel bar, Super Lyan. The sleek modern style extends into one of Amsterdam’s well-known watering holes with a unique menu of fine crafted cocktails.
Overall, I have found no reason to complain about the staff or the suite at Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam. Given the location alone is a minute’s walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife I would highly recommend visiting.
To the entire staff of the Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam from the front desk, to housekeeping, I cannot thank you all enough for your outstanding hospitality. You each made our celebratory stay a pleasurable one, and a lasting memory we will cherish until next...
Read moreI decided to make the most of being a Spire Elite member and invest my IHG points on a weekend away in Amsterdam with a friend. Working in the hospitality industry and being heavily involved in ensuring consistency in brand standards, I was also curious to see how the Crowne Plaza brand compared from location to location. I reserved four consecutive nights in Crown Plaza hotels; the first at Manchester Airport, the second and third at your hotel in the centre of Amsterdam, and the final night in the Northern Quarter of Manchester.
Firstly, the location of your hotel is fantastic. I love the fact that you can jump on a train to Central Station from the airport and be at the front door in less than a 5 minute walk. It's also a convenient location for jumping on and off the trams.
Michael from Switzerland took care of the check in process. He was very professional, efficient and detail orientated with a great sense of humor. He outlined all the benefits of my membership, told us about the hotel facilities and amenities and took time to ask us about our interests and recommend places to go. He even walked us to the elevators, offering to carry the luggage!
We were upgraded to a Club Room which was very nice. The mini bar was well stocked and we were delighted to find a Nespresso machine there too. The room was clean and comfortable and the sockets on the side of the TV unit came in very handy for charging phones and tablets. There was an additional charging unit built in to the desk too. The wardrobe was a good size with an adequate number of hangers and an inbuilt safe. The bathroom was modern and well sized and the shower was hot and powerful...perfect after travelling. If I had to nitpick or complain about anything it would be about the hairdryer which was one of those that you have to keep your finger on the button to make it work. Horrible things!! :-)
Although we didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, we did venture in there on a couple of occasions for a glass of wine or a coffee. I noted that the prices were very reasonable for a city centre hotel, especially when you take the Spire Elite discount in to consideration. The people working there were friendly and efficient and I loved the little extras like the salted chips and spicy peanuts that came as standard. One man in particular stood out (I think he is of Indian decent and has been working in the hotel for about 25 years) - he was friendly and engaging and we enjoyed his company.
We were sad to leave after our short stay and I have to say that your staff is a credit to you. Always courteous and friendly, dressed immaculately and going out of their way to engage with the customers. Even the lady servicing our room greeted us with a smile and a friendly 'good morning'.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anybody traveling for business or leisure. I look forward to...
Read moreThe Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam, a hotel that prides itself on luxury and service, delivered one of the most appalling experiences I have ever endured. What was meant to be a restful stay in a "really nice room" on the first floor with a picturesque view of Amsterdam's lively streets swiftly degenerated into a nightmarish ordeal. I was in Amsterdam on business, attending the Amsterdam Dance Event, an occasion that demands focus and rest. Instead, the hotel saw fit to launch a raucous party in the bar, conveniently situated directly beneath my room. The noise was unbearable, making sleep utterly impossible.
When we approached the staff, hoping for some relief, we were initially told that the party would end by 1 AM—an inconvenience, yes, but one we reluctantly accepted. However, as the hours dragged on and the clock struck 2 AM with the music still blaring, we found ourselves forced to confront the hotel staff once more. What we encountered was not an apology, not a solution, but a shocking display of ignorance and arrogance. The staff, in their utter indifference, offered nothing but flimsy excuses and showed a complete lack of empathy or professionalism. Their unwillingness to either quiet the music or relocate us to another room was infuriating.
After much persistence and navigating through several layers of bureaucracy, we were finally moved to a new room—a significant downgrade from our original accommodation. The insult added to injury was the complete absence of any apology or acknowledgment of the disruption caused. To add further salt to the wound, there was no prior notice at check-in that such an event could take place, leaving us blindsided by the chaos.
The reception staff, with their dismissive attitudes, and the hotel manager, who proved utterly ineffectual, contributed to an experience that was nothing short of a disgrace. When we sought reimbursement for the downgrade, we were again met with the same unyielding ignorance. This hotel, with its astonishing lack of customer care, has permanently lost a guest. I will never return, and I strongly advise others to STEER CLEAR of this horrid establishment. The Kimpton De Witt is a monument to how far a hotel can fall from its promises of luxury and hospitality and devolve into a selfish, unhelpful pitty. I have further made sure to instruct my lengthy list of business partners and artists to never work with this disgraceful...
