Bao Asian Kitchen — Restaurant in Breda

i went here with a few friends, making a reservation ahead of time is pretty important since it is a quite small and recent restaurant. the food was great and it didn’t take too much time to prepare. the prices are pretty accurate to the quality, not if you’re on a budget but a fun treat nevertheless.

the only complaint i have is about he service, specifically about the lack of contact from those who work there (didn’t come by too often, didn’t offer as in we couldn’t purchase water from the faucet), some could only speak english but that is very common and not a problem at all.

i had a few smaller dishes and a cocktail but i payed about the same as a friend who had one (main)noodle dish, a dessert and a cocktail. i personally had the most expensive cocktail on the menu and was a bit disappointing but that could of course just be my own opinion, the presentation on the cocktails i have seen was quite nice though. the side dishes i had were quite filling so i ended up sharing my gyoza with a friend. what i had: edamame, gyoza and the wakame salad.

each of us spent between 22-39€ (budget is doable by having a main dish and a drink). the food selection wasn’t too big if you exclude the sushi but the drinks had very many options in most categories. one could either decide to do shared diner or just pick a main dish, or both (if you’re really hungry and want to spend...

Een behoorlijke prijs betaald voor middelmatig eten dat na andershalf uur koud en foutief geleverd werd.

Wij besloten hier op vrijdagavond voor 2 personen voor 100 euro aan eten te bestellen nadat wij alle lovende rencies lazen. Waar deze vandaan komen, snappen wij echter niet zo goed.

Allereerst duurde het ruim 1.5 uur voordat wij het eten kregen, terwijl ze aangaven dat het drie kwartier zou duren. Dat is opzich niet zo erg, maar het eten kwam daarnaast ook nog eens koud aan. Niet lauw, maar echt bijna volledig afgekoeld. Daarnaast kregen wij twee keer eend i.p.v. één keer buikspek en één keer eend zoals besteld. En ook bij de bao party ging het fout. Wij hadden hier geen 3 verschillende van, maar twee.

Wij belden dus om door te geven dat het verkeerd geleverd was en dat het koud aangekomen was. We kregen een vriendelijke meid aan de lijn. Met het feit dat het koud geleverd was, deden ze echter niets en zeiden ze ook verder niets over. Wel brachten ze uiteindelijk de missende gerechten en mochten we de verkeerd geleverde gerechten houden. Prima oplossing wat mij betreft.

Helaas wat het eten zelf van matige kwaliteit. Allereerst waren de bao's waren vrij karig belegd. Ze smaakten prima maar desondanks dat waren ze toch de minst lekkere die ik tot nu toe op heb. De Beijing pancakes, prima grootte portie, echter een beetje saai, geen geweldige smaakcombinaties. Dit geldt ook voor de Crispy roasted pork belly. En de sushi was ook niet bijzonder (Crispy tempura salmon roll & Rainbow roll) Het zag er mooi uit, maar de smaak was niet meer dan prima, zeker niet de beste sushi die ik ooit op heb. SushiPoint Breda verslaat ze hiermee dubbel en dwars in smaak én in prijs. Het enige waar ik wel echt van genoot was de zalmsashimi. Zonde dat er geen keuze was en je gelijk de zalm- en tonijnsashimi moest bestellen, want de tonijnsashimi was daarentegen vrij smaakloos.

De prijzen die je betaald voor de gerechten zijn vrij hoog. Zeker de 15 euro die je betaald voor 8 stuks sushi, is een behoorlijke prijs voor wat je krijgt. Helaas geldt dit na onze mening voor al het eten. Wij hebben helaas niet genoten, het was het geld niet waard en zullen hier niet nogmaals bestellen. Kortom: we hebben er niet...

The service was friendly and quick. They've taken good care of us, with friendly smiles on their faces and without bothering us constantly with questions.

Their menu is diverse, with delicious meals for everyone.

Then their food was delicious. Our Bao crispy chicken was prepared full of flavour with an excellent, tender, crispy chicken. The Shanghai dumplings matched my expectations, giving a rich flavour that doesn't overstay its welcome. Our third dish was the veggie noodles. They served us a full plate, plenty for us to share.

This all for a very friendly price, making this one of my favourite spots in this area.
