Dinercafé De Markies — Restaurant in Groningen

We eat here quite frequently. Came here with my parents as it was one of the few restaurants open on a Sunday evening, and it's a stonthrow from our house. Amazing, delicious food. Great wine. Excellent and friendly service with humour, which is always a plus. The atmosphere is also fantastic. We were so sad when de Markies closed and Eetcafé de Stadstuin opened in its place (we never ate there). But absolutely extatic when it reopened a few years later, all be it under a different owner. Unfortunately not like De Markies of the past. Had my family from Scotland over and thought I would definitely made a good choice with De Markies. The restaurant looked good, the food was pretty good but 'definitely' not enough. Where I really was dissatisfied with is that we were constantly forgotten (or left out). People that came way later got served constantly, but for my family it felt we weren't important enough. Even while we're spending a fortune on drinks because we had to wait for 2.5 hours. Lovely neighbourhood restaurant and well worth the short walk from the centre. The food is fabulous and such good value. We had the 3-course menu and it was worth every euro. Plus the staff are spot on with the service. There's an informality to the place that belies its precision efficiency. We had a great meal and a lovely evening.
