Pernikkel — Restaurant in Groningen

It's been well over a year since I've been at pernikkel. At the time it was really good. So I decided to take my company here for lunch last week. Big mistake. We'd ordered a full English breakfast, eggs Benedict and a break platter. The eggs were good and filling, but in my opinion quite expensive for the portion served. The full English breakfast was too overcooked and flat in flavor, especially for the costs of the dish.

After ordering we've waited for about an hour to an hour and a half to receive the dishes which, in my opinion, would have to take this long. We'd ordered the bread platter as an appetizer, which ended up being served together with both other dishes.

Since it's shameful to let it go to waste, the food was finished non the less. When we went to pay for the food, the waitress asked if we'd enjoyed it. Naturally we said we didn't really enjoy it since it was a long wait and the English breakfast was a little overcooked and not really to our taste. She seemed quite offended and made a comment about how we finished the food, so it couldn't have been that bad. Surely, you could say it's not good and request a new meal, but we weren't ready to wait another hour and a half for a new plate of a 'full English breakfast'.

Long story short: regretting I went here for lunch, and it's been my last...

There was 1 very nice waiter, he was very helpful and nice vibe. But It took about 45mins for the food to arrive and you could taste it had been ready for a while. I had the English breakfast and it was just awful, we actually saw them take the beans w/ tomato sauce out of a plastic bag which was microwaved... It tasted like a can of tomatosauce with like Italian herbs from jumbo.. There were no hashbrowns, there was 1 fried egg which completely spilled next to the bread. The mushrooms were so dry and felt like those gummies you put in your ears at a concert. The bread was nothing special, nothing was salted. Tomato was barely fried, just a half raw tomato. The sausage was meh and the bacon felt old/microwaved. This was only my dish, the other dishes were bad too. Oh and the other servers were kinda rude, which I actually don't really mind but they were just not paying attention to our table, so we had to ask them to remove the coffee from an hour ago. Also, nobody asked how it tasted after the food.. the English breakfast cost 16,50(!!), I can make it better at home for less than 5 euros.. Visited last sunday and was very dissapointed. It took 20min to finally get food menus and cappuccino was just foam. It took another 45min for the food which I get it was bit busy but it would have been nice to know. Pastrami sandwich was with carpaccio which I complained and said this isnt smoked meat. They said it was pastrami but it was completely raw meat. Did not enjoy and I couldnt eat it. I was told it was taken off the bill which wasnt true and we ended up paying for it and didnt want to make a fuss as other people were waiting to pay as well. They did offer to replace the food with something else but after spending over an hour waiting for food we didnt have time to wait another 45min for food. Heard a lot of good things but it wasnt good...
