A true hidden gem with history in Groningen!
Walking through Folkingestraat I stumbled upon Le Souk and what an unforgettable discovery it was. Even before stepping inside the rich scent of spices olives and herbs fills the air and pulls you in. Inside it feels like entering a vibrant marketplace full of life with endless varieties of spices antipasti dates olives and more. The quality is simply outstanding and truly unique.
What makes Le Souk even more special is its story. Founded back in the early 1980s by Mohammed Kemmoun it was one of the very first shops in Groningen to bring Mediterranean and North African flavors to the city. For more than 40 years it has been a cultural and culinary anchor loved by locals students and travelers alike.
This is not just a shop it is an experience. It opens your senses inspires your cooking and connects you with traditions from far beyond the Netherlands. For anyone who appreciates authentic food quality ingredients or just wants to explore something truly special Le Souk is an absolute must-visit.

Read moreI am happy to shop here. Nothing beats this place. The options are incredible, the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the food is DAMN good!
Their selection of olives is fantastic, dips and spreads are romantic and highly elevated in terms of flavour. All at a very fair price.
The options for sweets are phenomenal, and everything is crisp, sticky, sweet, savoury and succulent in all the right ways. It’s like every bite of food makes love to your mouth.
This is my favourite store in the Netherlands. I come here every time I visit, without a moment of hesitation. Beautiful smells, staff, and options. Please, pick up some olives and have a bite somewhere green, you will not be...

Unbedingte Empfehlung ! Schaut euch die Bilder an.
The souk looks ever from the outside as if it is a Moroccan bazaar and is inside much larger than expected. In fact, the comparison with a bazaar is not wrong. There is a huge selection of salads, spices, herbs, nuts, noodles, rice, beans, dates, figs and and and. Ready-made salads, stuffed peppers, various oils or an extensive selection of sheep and goat cheese are also available. Dried fruit, baked goods and tea. But most of all you can buy almost everything unpacked (not foiled) from PLASTIC - trays. Unconditional recommendation! Look at...
