I wouldn't know how to rate the food or drink because a friend and I waited for 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledge our existence. I thought I was Bruce Willis in The Sixth Sense.
Fifteen minutes after our arrival, two attractive women walked in. Within 30 seconds, these lovely young ladies were attended to by not one, not two, but three separate staff members!
Realizing that there were no available tables, the three staff members finally looked in our direction. Hahaaaaa! We do exist! I am not among the wandering spirits that only Haley Joel Osment can see! My confidence was revived. Someone would be with us shortly so my friend and I can have some food and pints. But, alas, this was a silly thought.
It turns out that the staffs' contempt for our presence became crystal clear by the dismissive scrutiny thrust in our general direction.
Message received loud and clear. We were not welcome.
I was naïve to believe that this establishment's primary business was serving food and drink without incompetence or discrimination.
Their mission statement seems to be, "customers are problems to be solved, not to be pleased."
We left and had fantastic service and a great time at the Duke of Oz (which I...
Read moreOut here for celebrating with friends. Service was fine but we had a new staff member that didn't know the difference between spicy gin ginger ale cocktail and dark and stormy cocktail.
I can't really blame the new staff member. A friend wanted vegan cake but that had to come from the freezer. So be aware when wanting cake.
Other than that, the atmosphere is great and the quality of cocktails are great. I had spicy gin ginger ale cocktail and it had a stamper so that you could crush the mint and hot pepper.
My friend had a pornstar martini, but she got an empty glass with a spoon with it, instead of having prosecco on the side. It was unclear if it was added to the drink.
The atmosphere inside is amazing but not wheelchair friendly.
I know this place draws a crowd so be aware that it can be busy and double check if you...
Read moreI've been to Van Der Werff twice now (two years apart) and I still really like it. It's right next to the bridge as soon as you exit Leiden station. The view is beautiful, there's seating outside with shade, and food is delicious. I don't drink so can't comment on the beer. For dinner I got the entree chicken which is a beautifully roasted small hen(?) with steak fries and an artful salad consisting of red onion, tomatoes, and other garnishes. It also came with a little jar of pineapple mash. Service is friendly and they were accommodating to my 18 mo old as well. This is definitely one of my Leiden restaurant...
