Bentang Bali Restaurant, Authentic Indonesian,Seafood & International Cuisine — Restaurant in Oranjestad (city)

I discovered this restaurant by accident on my way to the bus stop. The menu outside intrigued me and I was in need of food before returning to my resort. I was impressed with the atmosphere as soon as I entered ; the white linen napkins, well set tables and the feeling of cleanliness were reassuring. The server greeted me pleasantly and allowed me to choose my table. I ordered the shrimp and fish tacos and a glass of lemonade. The lemonade was delicious and definitely not out of a jar. When my meal arrived the portions were overwhelming. There were shrimp surrounding 3 stuffed taco shells which I was pleased to see were soft. The red snapper and shrimp which filled the shells were delicious and done to perfection. The shredded carrots, cabbage cheese and lettuce were a great addition as was the thousand island dressing. I was only able to eat one taco and enjoyed the others for lunch the next day. The price with drink was 30 dollars and worth every penny. I hope to go back to explore the Indonesian Dishes on the menu. I thank my server for the pleasant conversation and extend my compliments...

Came in to have a late lunch. It took 10 minutes to get menus and 30 minutes to get drinks (just a juice and a soda). After an hour, we asked for an update on the food and once we were told it'd be another half hour, we made the decision to leave as we did have plans for the rest of the afternoon we would've liked to get to.

Our waitress did apologize at the end for not being able to accommodate us, but it would've been nice if they made us aware of the long wait times upon seating. I did overhear one of the wait staff told a table seated not too long after us that there was a long line up of orders for the kitchen and that it might have take a while for everything. That table decided to leave right after they were told, but this wasn't conveyed to other tables, from what I could tell, including ours. Had we received the same message, we probably would've made the same decision to leave earlier on.

The food at other tables looked great, but I can't comment on it directly as part of this review. The only thing to note is if the tables in the restaurant are half filled, expect...

On March 2, 2025, I visited a restaurant with three other women before the start of carnival. While the serving sizes of the food were generous, the overall service experience was disappointing.

(Fast Forward)

After finishing our meal, we requested the check from a staff member who was delivering dishes to other tables. As I turned to ask for the check, I noticed a cockroach crawling on the wall. The server did not seem to notice my reaction, as he was focused on clearing dishes.

My immediate response was one of disgust, and I exchanged worried looks with my friend. To our surprise, the waiter noticed the cockroach, walks over to it and crushed it against the wall with his bare hands. He then returned to our table and remarked, “Where did that come from? I’ve never seen one here before.”

This unsettling experience has led me to decide against returning to the restaurant in the future, as it raises serious concerns about cleanliness and pest control in dining...
