Schnitzelparadies Roermond — Restaurant in Roermond

We stumbled upon this place because all the other restaurants in the shopping area were packed and we were starving. We didn't expect much, but we were pleasantly surprised.

First off, the restaurant was not crowded at all, which was a nice change of pace from the long lines and wait times we experienced elsewhere. The menu was a bit pricier than some of the other restaurants, but it was definitely worth it. The portions were generous and filling, and they even had a salad bar (which we didn't realize was all-you-can-eat until later on).

The atmosphere of the restaurant was very German, which was no surprise given Roermond's proximity to the country. The outfits worn by the servers and the interior of the restaurant were authentically German, and the menu was even available in both Dutch and German. It was like we were transported to Germany without ever leaving the Netherlands!

As for the food itself, Schnitzelparadies specializes in schnitzel (as the name suggests), and they definitely deliver on authenticity. I also tried their pancake dessert, which was simply delicious. It was a basic pancake topped with ice cream, whipped cream, and cherry sauce, but the German vibes of the restaurant somehow made it taste even better.

The only downside was the service, which wasn't as friendly or personal, but no worries at all, this issue of hospitality being somewhat mediocre is actually quite common in Western Europe. It cannot be compared to warm tropical countries when it comes to the friendliness of service. However, we know the staff was working hard to serve customers and make sure we were happy with the quality of the food. And speaking of which, the quality was definitely on par with five-star standards.

All in all, Schnitzelparadies is a hidden gem in Roermond that you shouldn't miss. The food is delicious and authentic, the atmosphere is German and fun, and the service is hard-working and efficient. Give yourself a try, your happy belly will...

Bizar slechte service, nog nooit eerder meegemaakt. We zijn allebei terughoudend met commentaar leveren, maar hier ging vrijwel alles fout. Bij binnenkomst werden we verteld dat we in verband met reserveringen alleen bij specifiek toegewezen tafels mochten zitten. Fair, maar we moesten ook daar na een uur weer weg zijn. We kwamen om 16:30. We vroegen eenmaal op onze plek om een biertje dat er niet was en een almdudler waarvan de serveerster zonder te weten wat het is (maar het stond wel op de kaart) zei dat ze dat niet hebben. We kregen duizendmaal sorry ten koste van de geloofwaardigheid en - toegegeven - na niet al te lang wachten serveerde (vreemd genoeg) een collega ons de maaltijd van anderen. We hadden een platte (soort mix van currywurst, kipspies en een schnitzel) voor twee personen. De kipspies was zo hard en nagenoeg zwart, praktisch houtskool op een spies. Die hebben we laten staan. Nogmaals, ik voelde me heel opgelaten want ik ben geen Gordon Ramsey maar dit was echt NWVA-niet-oké. We hebben er 35 minuten gezeten. In die tijd moest de eerste serveerster geleerd krijgen wat de optelsom is van een bestelling van andere klanten. Dat was dramatisch hoofdrekenwerk; je veronderstelt dat de kassa veel hulp biedt of dat dit in schrijnende gevallen gewoon niet wordt aangedaan als het niet mogelijk is iemand dat te laten doen. Hierop volgde herhaaldelijk of alles naar wens was en of we nog meer drinken wouden; het glas nog vol op tafel. De rekening, een whopping 55 euro voor 2 personen met ronduit gevaarlijk voedsel, zorgde ervoor dat mijn vriendin besloot tijdig weg te lopen om mijn civiele tirade niet af te hoeven wachten. Ik ben niet in woede ontstoken omdat ik wist dat het zinloos zou zijn. Ik kreeg 10%(!) korting op mijn eten omdat we meer dan 1/3 van het menu hebben laten staan uit ongenoegen.

Ik raad u ten strengste af hier te gaan zitten, te bestellen of überhaupt in de buurt te komen als u gesteld bent op Deutsche Pünktlichkeit, goed eten en knappe service. Een ramp, één ster. Ik wou dat ik mijn geld volledig terug...

Had a nice lunch here after a day of shopping...had the mini-menu which consisted of a soup, salad, fries, 100g schnitzle with your choice of sauce and two scoops of ice cream for dessert all for 15 Euro. The waitstaff was friendly and everyone seemed to help out throughout the restaurant. It was pretty good, but wished the schnitzel would have been a bit warmer when it came to the table...almost was cold, but the pepper sauce was wonderful. As for the dessert it was the best part of the entire meal, it was presented beautifully and had chocolate and cookies on top along with fresh whipped cream. PRO-TIP...Tuesday is all you can eat...
