I went couple of times to Atithi Denhaag en enjoyed it so i assumed Atithi Rotterdam would be the same. Unfortunately, it was totally opposite. Food was not at all authentic. Both Lamb en Chicken biryani looked like boiled rice mixed with curry. It may somewhat resemble pulao but one cant call it Biryani. Chicken Amritsi en Goa prawn were sweet in taste. Only daal was good in taste. Service was also quite poor. Order was taken after 20 min and food arrived after 50 min. Additional naan ordered arrived after 20 min. We were placed back in the corner so not an ideal place. The decoration looked cheap and you could see roof construction behind the decoration. Bathroom was wet and dirty and toilet roll holder was broken. All in all was not a pleasurable experience and feel like waste of time and money

Just to respond to what is said in reply from Atithi,

The guy serving us did not and could not explain anything either in English/Dutch or Hindi. I asked him a couple of things like what kind of lentils is this and he said sorry i cant. I am from Kerala.

Secondly, if the dishes doesnt take how it shoud then it cant be adjusted. For example Biryani, Its not like make it more spicy, it has to be made again altogether and given what you are making there as Biryani, i seriously doubt that your chef know how to make it properly. If that was the case then he/hsr would have made it correctly from the beginning. Also your response conveniently ignores the timing issue. Even if i assume that the the dishes can be made all over again, which means we again have to wait...

Atithi means guest. And in Indian custom a guest is treated with utmost respect. So Mr Tanmoy Sahib (chef and manager) did indeed make me feel very welcome. Thank you. The immediate impression before even seeing the menu was quite positive and I felt very comfortable. The restaurant itself is very simply decorated and not overbearing or pretentious. I liked its simplicity with tables without any table cloth. It was like an Indian canteen. The clientele on a Tuesday night seemed to be mainly local people and it was roughly half full with 2 waiters and the chef himself giving them due attention.

Now about the food. I was treated by Mr Tanmoy to an incredibly authentic Amritsari Chicken with extra spices. Unbelievably delicious. So much so that I finished it all off with extra rice and aloo kulcha. And believe me when I say that the portion was quite generous. I have never had such a delightful meal, even in London. You can tell from talking to Mr Tanmoy that he was quite passionate about his profession, cuisine and dishes and putting the interests of the customers first.

Would I come again? That is an emphatic yes. Would I bring a client to this place? That would depend on my relationship with with the client but more than likely I will have no hesitation. Will I be telling my work colleagues in Rotterdam about this venue? Absolutely I will be singing the praises of Atithi and Mr Tanmoy to them and no doubt they will also like to come and test my recommendation.

Why do t you check it out and let me know...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Atithi and I must say, it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The food was incredibly delicious, showcasing flavors that tantalized my taste buds with every bite.

What truly set Athithi apart, however, was the exceptional service provided by the staff. They were not only attentive but also incredibly helpful and friendly throughout the evening. In particular, Dave went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of perfect. His warm demeanor and willingness to accommodate any request truly made the evening memorable. While the food and service exceeded my expectations, I couldn't help but notice that the ambiance of the restaurant could use a bit of improvement. The lighting was a bit too bright, casting a stark, white glow that detracted from the overall atmosphere. While this may be a matter of personal preference, I believe that softer, warmer lighting would enhance the dining experience and create a more inviting atmosphere.

Overall, I would highly recommend Athithi to anyone looking for a delicious meal accompanied by excellent service. Despite the minor issue with the lighting, the exceptional quality of the food and the warmth of the staff more than make up for it. I look forward to returning to Atithi in the future for another unforgettable dining experience.

Thank you, and...

So we went in thinking it'd be this amazing spot but Google reviews totally fooled us. The moment we walked in, I was like, "Are you KIDDING me?" The server? Total zombie mode. No welcome, no smile, NOTHING. We literally had to look on our own to get seated and we had a RESERVATION! When we asked about a table, he just mumbled "yes" and went back to whatever he was doing. We basically had to find our own spot. And where was it? More like a delivery waiting area. Those cushions looked like they hadn't seen a washing machine since... forever. GROSS. The food? Looks pretty on the plate, I'll give them that. But taste? ZERO. Absolutely zero flavor. The only thing that was halfway decent was the Gulabi Chai and this one server at the end who actually seemed to know how customer service works. BUT WAIT, it gets worse! The absolute WORST blunder was when they brought my stuffed capsicum and the server goes, "Your paneer lababdor is here" and I'm like, WE DIDN'T ORDER THAT! He laughed and said "oh yes, shimla mirch" and I'm thinking, are they seriously serving leftover "paneer lababdor" inside capsicum? NEVER. AGAIN. 👎 Save your money, save your appetite. If you want good Indian food in Rotterdam, look ELSEWHERE! This place is a total waste of time and money.

I know India from a 2-year stay in the country and countless trips over the decades. As a rule, I am usually disappointed by Indian restaurants worldwide, the pakora suffocate in batter, the dishes drown under thick sauces, no wonder that Indians, unlike Chinese, Thais and Vietnamese etc. prefer to cook themselves instead of going out to eat. Indian food is extremely labour-intensive, I know, because I usually prefer to cook it myself. As a rule, they just whip up something that tastes similar at best. That's why Bollywood productions travel abroad with their own kitchen trolleys. For the first time outside India, I found pani puri here and it was delicious. The onion bhaji was also perfect. The main course was South Indian cuisine, because you don't get it very often. And they were absolutely great, there is nothing better in India! Wonderful dosas, the best sambal! For dessert we had rasmalai, a very labour-intensive Bengali dessert I philosophised with the chef for a long time about Indian food and that explained the high quality of the food: he is passionate about cooking and about making it original and authentic, even if it means long preparations and a lot of work.
