Authentic Dutch homemade cuisine can be quite difficult to find in Rotterdam, so I was excited to find this restaurant and I had a good dinner there!

The food was exceptional and the portion was generous. The owners were also very kind and friendly, and they cook and serve you the food by themselves. The menu changes daily and you can check what food is on offer and their prices on their Facebook page.

Unfortunately I had to take two stars off as I felt the prices could have been made more transparent. The restaurant could only give me a handwritten bill (see below) and while the food prices were fairly reasonable I was surprised to find that they charged me €8,10 (!) for a glass of 500ml beer. I asked the owner if this was a mistake and she confirmed that that was indeed the price. In hindsight we should’ve asked first before ordering, but we couldn’t help but find that price hardly justifiable especially when the 250ml glass only costs €3,20.

The handwritten bill also did not add up to the €96 amount the owner charged my card, which she explained as caused by the bottle of mayonnaise she gave us with the fries. We thought this was free as we didn’t actually ask for it, plus asking for an additional €3 for the mayo feels a bit unfair so I felt a bit overcharged, although we decided to let it go as tip as we did not want to make too much fuss over it.

All in all while I still had a fairly good meal, my impression was sadly tainted due to the unexpected surprises...

What can I say, I looked for weeks for a genuine Dutch restaurant and thanks to my hostel host I found this one!

I honestly have no idea why traditional Dutch food is not more prevalent because what I had was so freaking delicious!

I ate Stammpot with a good sized and well seasoned hamburg steak on top and it was honestly the best meal I had in The Netherlands by far.

Not only that but if you take a window seat then you're eating with a fabulous view of the city streets and a bit of the canal.

To top it all off I had very gracious hosts who checked up on me and were very happy to give me seconds (that's right I ate another whole plate of the Stammpot!)

The only dissatisfaction that I found was that I found this restaurant on the last day of my trip and I couldn't get to try any other dishes.

If I'm ever in the area again, I'm definitely hitting...

Loved this place and loved the owners! So, so friendly and such a fantastic atmosphere. No menu but just the choices available on the board but good home cooking and all very reasonable. Great area to walk around afterwards and find a trendy bar. What is not to like!! Bea and Martin are awesome people! They don’t really have vegetarian food on the menu, but Martin is always in to make a very original and delicious meal with real meat replacers! Eethuisje,...
